An official visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Turkey

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov paid a two-day official visit to the Republic of Turkey.

This visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Turkey is to be a new significant step towards the further progressive development of bilateral relations based on the solid foundation of friendship and the principles of mutually beneficial cooperation and equality.

The fact that about 660 Turkish companies and business organisations operate today in various sectors of Turkmen economy testifies to close and active trade and economic cooperation between the two countries that gains momentum with every passing year. Last year Turkey ranked second in the total trade turnover of Turkmenistan. The volume of bilateral trade exceeded US $6 billion and increased by 26.6 percent as compared with 2013. All possibilities to significantly increase this figure in the coming years exist.

In continuation of the talks held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, the two leaders discussed the progress in implementing bilateral agreements and exchanged views on a wide range of aspects of Turkmen-Turkish cooperation in a constructive and businesslike manner. Specifying key vectors of cooperation at the current stage and on a long-term basis, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed the mutual intention of Turkmenistan and Turkey to deepen and build up fruitful partnership that had the profound multifaceted potential.

The sides exchanged views on topical issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest during the meeting.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Turkmenistan on an official visit at a convenient time. This invitation was accepted with gratitude. The dates of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels.

Then the official delegations of the two countries joined in the talks which took place in the Big Assembly Hall.

Taking an opportunity, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited his Turkish counterpart to visit our country and participate in the High Level Conference on the Policy of Neutrality: International Cooperation for Peace, Security and Development and the celebrations to mark the remarkable event, which will take place on December 12, 2015.

After the official delegations had concluded the talks, the ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place.

The Agreement on Cooperation between the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK), the Protocol on the project for the construction of soil and soilless greenhouses between S. A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) under the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, the Memorandum of Cooperation in Culture between the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, the Agreement on Cooperation in the field of Labour, Social Protection and Employment between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Agreement on the International Carriage of Goods between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey were signed.

After the signing ceremony had been concluded, the leaders of the two states held a press conference.

Commenting on the outcomes of the top-level talks, the President of Turkmenistan said that this visit marked a new milestone in modern history of fraternal Turkmen-Turkish relations. The Turkmen leader noted that the talks focused on the promising areas for further bilateral cooperation which is steadily promoted and enhanced. An exchange of views on the creation of new opportunities to implement joint projects, using existing favourable conditions, took place.

Addressing the media representatives, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the International Investment Forum of Turkmenistan aimed at promoting foreign economic relations of our country would take place in Istanbul on March 4 and bring together dozens of companies from Turkey and countries of Europe, Asia and America.

The ceremony of conferring the degree of the Honourable Doctor of the University of Economics and Technology to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took place at the Central Office of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey in the afternoon. This title was conferred to the leader of the Turkmen state for his profound contribution to strengthening friendly brotherly relations between the Turkmen and Turkish peoples and his outstanding services in promoting bilateral contacts in the spheres of science and education.

An exposition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality was arranged at the Central Office of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey. The fundamental scientific works and popular science editions by the President of Turkmenistan that were translated in many world languages, including the Turkish language were demonstrated at the exposition. The works by Magtymguly Fragi, which were published on occasion of the 290th anniversary of the great Turkmen poet and thinker, as well as books dedicated to the announcement of the city of Mary a cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2015 were also exhibited there.

The emblem of the year of 2015 that is announced in Turkmenistan as a Year of Neutrality and Peace was also demonstrated at the exposition.

A special stand was dedicated to the 2017 Asian Games, an event that the Turkmen people are waiting and actively preparing for. Among the exhibits were sports symbols, notebooks, calendars and other printed output with the emblem of the forthcoming large international sports forum.

Underlining the significance of the meeting at one of the authoritative universities of the country, Rector Adem Shahin noted that it would make it into history of the university as an event of particular importance. The Rector of the university familiarized the audience with the large-scale scientific activity of the President of Turkmenistan, on the instructions and under the leadership of who the fundamental reforms are implemented with the aim to bring the Turkmen science into new high levels and build up mutually beneficial international cooperation in this sphere.

The Turkmen leader expressed gratitude to the leadership and teaching staff of the prestigious higher educational institution for conferring the degree of the Honourable Doctor. “I consider this fact,” said the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, “as a token of friendship and fraternity, profound respect to Turkmenistan and its people and as an evidence of the high level of relations between Turkmenistan and Turkey.”

Emphasizing the productivity of establishing close international relations in the sphere of education and direct contacts with the leading foreign universities, the Turkmen leader focused on the efficiency of the Turkmen-Turkish cooperation in this area. That is vividly proved by thousands of young Turkmen specialists who got their education and continue studying at the educational institutions of the friendly country.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called for building up direct contacts between scientific centres and higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan and Turkey, carrying out joint scientific research and exchanging experience between them.

In this regard, the President of Turkmenistan expressed belief in the efficiency of establishing mutually beneficial relations between the Turkmen State University of Economy and Development and the University of Economics and Technology of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey.

The ceremony of signing agreements, which replenished a number of bilateral documents signed within the framework of the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Turkey, took place at the Central Office of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey. The Agreement on cooperation on establishment of the Turkmen-Turkish working group between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey was signed.

The official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Turkey continues. It is planned that the Turkmen leader will visit Istanbul, a largest economic and cultural centre of Turkey that will host the International Investment Forum of Turkmenistan.
