President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, during which the work done in the economic sectors and social and economic development of the country in January-February this year and other domestic policy issues and draft documents were considered.

The Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers reported on social and economic development of the country in January-February of the current year. GDP growth rate made 110.1 per cent and the growth rate of industrial output made 110.2 per cent in the reporting period. In January-February, the volume of retail trade turnover grew by 15.4 per cent as compared with the same period in 2014.

The construction of large industrial, social and cultural facilities continued in the reporting period; the growth rate of investments from all sources of funding made 105.1 per cent as compared with the same period in 2014. In the reporting period, the ratio of this indicator to GDP was 36.2 per cent.

In accordance with the new national development programme, 194 social facilities, 959,700 square metres of housing facilities and engineering networks were under construction in January-February of the current year. In this regard, it was reported that the volume of investment used in the reporting period rose by 15.9 per cent as compared with the same period in 2014.

The State budget was implemented successfully in January-February. The budget revenues were implemented at 103.6 per cent and the budget expenditures – at 90.7 percent. 79 per cent of the budgetary funds were spent in the social sphere. Wages, pensions, state benefits and scholarships were paid off in a timely manner in the reporting period.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the proposed list of state-owned enterprises and objects of state property to be privatized at the second stage of the privatization programme as a whole.

In January-February, the growth rate of the production of oil and gas condensate made 109.2 per cent, natural and associated gas - 105.2 per cent and ‘blue fuel’ exports to foreign countries rose by 107.6 per cent. The production of petroleum products, including gasoline, polypropylene, lubricants and liquefied gas, grew as compared with the same period in 2014. The volume of drilling operations rose 1.8 times.

In January-February, 71 foreign delegations visited Turkmenistan with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 94 delegations of our country made business trips to foreign countries in the reporting period. 26 events organized jointly with the foreign partners were held in the reporting period.

The report on the preparations for a state visit of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Turkmenistan scheduled for March 10-11 and a working visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Japan scheduled for March 12-14, where the III United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction will take place in Sendai city, was presented.

The report on the preparations for the exhibition and conference of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan, which will take place on March 17-18 to mark the 7th anniversary of the Union, was presented.

The report on the measures taken to modernize railway networks and facilities throughout the country was presented. In particular, the construction of Atamyrat-Ymamnazar-Akina railway continues and the train station in Balkanabat was built and put into operation.

It was also reported that the measures were taken to accelerate the pace of construction work at the railway bridge Turkmenabat-Farap across the Amudarya River, the airports in Ashgabat and Turkmenabat and the international seaport in Turkmenbashi.

The President signed the Resolution on the construction of modern apartment houses in Ashgabat and instructed the Deputy Chairman to enhance the organisational measures so as to ensure an integrated approach to improving the quality of construction work performed by Turkmen builders.

Commenting on the reports on the work done in January-February, the President emphasized that the results achieved in the two months of the current year testified to the high economic growth. GDP growth rate was maintained at 10.1 per cent. In 2014, the growth rate of industry in GDP made 12.7 per cent, the construction sector - 8.5 per cent and the transport and communications sector - 6.8 per cent. Other sectors of the national economy developed intensively. Construction work at various facilities throughout the country was carried out on a large scale. Social facilities make up the major part of the construction projects with a total value of over US$ 50 billion. However, the President noted that the issues in some sectors remained unsolved.

Touching upon the Ashgabat Development Programme, the Turkmen leader noted that the Deputy Chairmen in charge of etraps of Ashgabat would report on the work done at each government meeting.

Dwelling upon International Women’s Day, widely and solemnly celebrated in the country on March 8, the President emphasized the importance of this holiday.

Other issues were considered and the decisions were adopted during the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
