Turkmenistan-Iran Business Forum in Ashgabat

The leaders of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran attended Turkmenistan-Iran Business Forum in Ashgabat.

The President of Turkmenistan greeted the distinguished guest at the square in front of the Mizan Business Centre. On behalf of the IRI people, President Hassan Rouhani presented a modern comfortable long-distance bus “SCANIA” to the people of Turkmenistan.

Vice Premiers, heads of ministries and departments of the two countries, members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan, members of the government delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, representatives of leading Iranian companies as well as media gathered together in the conference hall of the Mizan Business Centre.

Greeting all those present, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov focused on the priority tasks set before the two countries. The Turkmen leader noted that joint work of businessmen and companies of our countries in the industrialized sectors that are based on high technologies was of particular importance for broadening interstate cooperation.

Emphasizing that numerous projects have been implemented in the industrial sector of Turkmenistan today, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov focused on tremendous potential to develop fisheries, agriculture, tourism, power engineering industry and construction.

The Turkmen leader specifies such important projects as construction of Turkmenbashi International seaport, the new international airport in Ashgabat, Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi highway and other modern objects as well as creation of new infrastructure systems on the territory of our country. Noting that opening of Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran section of the North-South transnational railway vividly exemplified successful cooperation in the transport sphere, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underlined that it would open up opportunities to significantly increase the volumes of cargo transportation via international routes. Taking an opportunity, the President of Turkmenistan expressed sincere gratitude to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and all those participated in implementation of this project.

The Turkmen leader noted that Turkmenistan carried out large-scale work on diversification of its energy transit to world markets. Giving specific examples, President Girbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the second branch of the gas pipeline supplying Turkmen natural gas to Iran and three international gas pipelines to China had been laid within the last years. At present, the fourth branch of this gas pipeline is prepared for construction. The President of Turkmenistan emphasized that it was also planned to implement such ambitious projects of the regional and international significance as Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline and Trans-Caspian gas pipeline and invited companies and financial structures of Iran to take part in implementation of these projects.

The speech of the leader of Turkmenistan aroused keen interest among those present.

Then the floor was given to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Commenting on the outcomes of the talks, President Hassan Rouhani focused on their fruitfulness. Significant changes that took place in Turkmenistan and Iran within the last years contributed to expanding traditional interstate relations and developing successful bilateral cooperation and partnership on regional and international scale.

The distinguished guest also underlined the coincidence of views on important issues of the regional and international problems, particularly maintenance of peace and security as well as counteraction to contemporary threats and guarantee of sustainable development in the region.

Confirming the readiness of the Iranian side to contribute to the further development of mutually beneficial long-term cooperation with Turkmenistan, the IRI President noted that our countries played a role of ‘gateways’ to world markets for each other. In this context emphasis was put on the tremendous potential for broad international cooperation in the north-south and east-west directions, including through diversification of transit and transport infrastructure, in particular Oman-Iran-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan transport corridor.

Speaking about the fruitful character of bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sector, President Hassan Rouhani noted that Iran expressed keen interest in enhancing cooperation in this sphere as well as in the electricity sector, including through the implementation of infrastructure projects. It was also confirmed the readiness to increase the purchase of electric power and natural gas from Turkmenistan and ensure stable energy transit from Turkmenistan through Iran to foreign markets.

The distinguished guest mentioned the health care sector and medical industry among the promising areas of interstate cooperation. The Iranian leader also mentioned cooperation in the humanitarian and cultural spheres, in particular education, and the high technology sector as a significant element of the interstate dialogue.

Wishing forum participants fruitful work, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Hassan Rouhani bade farewell to those present.

The priority areas of the further enhancement of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran in the context of bilateral agreement and long-term plans were considered and identified during the business meeting. Iranian businessmen expressed their willingness in building up mutually beneficial cooperation in the spheres of trade, economy, science and technology and fruitful relations in various sectors.

The vectors of further cooperation were discussed during bilateral meetings between members of the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran and representatives of ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and managers of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
