Kasym-Jomart Tokayevsupports idea to conduct the meeting of the leaders of Central Asian countries in Ashgabat

President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev supports the idea to conduct regular meeting of the heads of the Central Asian states in the capital of Ashgabat this year, Russian News Agency informs with the reference to the press service of Kazakhstan’s leader.

According to the press service, Tokayev “has spoken for support of conducting regular consultative meeting of the heads of the Central Asian states in the capital of Turkmenistan with the presence of consensus of this matter” during telephone conversation with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev expressed gratitude to the head of Turkmen state for support of Kazakhstan’s initiatives under the Council of Turkic-speaking States as well as for the joining of the country to the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building in Asia as an observer.

In his turn, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited Kasym-Jomart Tokayev to Turkmenistan to discuss bilateral cooperation and signing of important documents.

Earlier, Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov has said that the third consultative meeting of the heads of the Central Asian states can be moved to 2021 and held in Turkmenistan due to the COVID-19 pandemics. Initially, the Summit was planned to be held in Bishkek in August 2020, later it was moved to autumn but postponed to 2021.
