Educating children and young people, raising awareness is important for preventing crime, corruption and fostering a culture of law-abidingness.

In this regard, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) together with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) presented the Education for Justice Initiative for Turkmen specialists.

The online meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, the teaching staff of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the International University for Humanities and Development, secondary school teachers.

The Education for Justice Initiative, developed by UNESCO and UNODC, aims to prevent crime and promote a culture of rule of law through educational activities. These events help educators educate young people to better understand issues that can undermine the rule of law and empower them to tackle global crime-related problems.

The initiative is part of the Global Program for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration, adopted at the end of the XIII UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in 2015.

Emphasizing the importance of educating the younger generation in the spirit of observance of the law, peace and friendship, international expert, head of the USAID-funded Safe Migration in Central Asia party, Eleanor Valentine, noted: “Using the capabilities of science in the interests of peace and friendship, Turkmenistan is consistently strengthening cooperation with major international organizations in science, technology and innovation. The country attaches great importance to the use of innovative teaching methods, modern curricula and materials in the education system. We hope that today the event dedicated to the UNODC Education for Justice Initiative will open a new page in this important process and contribute to the education of young citizens of Turkmenistan, giving them the opportunity to study such areas as the rule of law, prevention of global threats. "

In turn, a representative of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan expressed hope that this initiative will be implemented in Turkmenistan.
