Today, building the energy security system, and ensuring reliable and stable energy supplies to the world markets is one of the most pressing tasks of the international community.

In the past few years, Turkmenistan as one of the leading energy powers in the world leads consistent international activities, primarily within the UN framework, upon the initiative of President of Turkmenistan on issues related to energy security. In May 2013, at the next plenary meeting of the 67th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations it was adopted the UN resolution “Reliable and Stable Transit of Energy and Its Role in Ensuring Sustainable Development and International Cooperation”which has become a significant event at the international level.

The TAPI project implementation is one of the brightest examples of the successful foreign policy of the head of the state. Natural gas demand of the economies of Afghan, Pakistan and India increases, thus, the construction of TAPI gas pipeline will ensure long-term supply of energy in the countries of South-East Asia. It will ensure further economic development of the region, specifically the growth of its social well-being as the important factor of increasing energy security and sustainable development.

As mentioned earlier, last year in December it was started the construction of gas pipeline of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) and the third stage projects of industrial development of "Galkynysh" natural gas pool. At the opening ceremony it was attended President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Vice President of India, Mohammad Hamid Ansari.

Currently, in southeast of the Karakum desert is located a super-giant gas field "Galkynysh", ready for trench laying for more than seven kilometers of steel pipeline.

Сonstruction of the Turkmen section of the pipeline employs more than 600 people of various construction specialties from velayat specialized agencies of the State Concern “ Turkmen oil and gas construction” ("Turkmenneftegazstroy"); the general contractor is the trust “Mary oil and gas construction” ("Maryneftegazstroy") and the subcontractors. The customer of this project is the State Concern “Turkmen gas” ("Turkmengaz").

Currently, the operators of bulldozer of general contractor of the trust “Mary oil and gas construction” ("Maryneftegazstroy") are engaged in smoothing out dunes and leveling the roads of the future gas pipeline. The width of it will be 70 meters. Such a wide corridor is considered in accordance with the technical project documentation: two gas pipelines will lay from the gas-cleaning plant to the compressor station. As planned, it will be located the entire infrastructure of material supplies including communication cables, facilities of electrochemical protection, and laying-out local railways.

The welding of steel pipelines of more than seven kilometers is completed. Now, it is time for experts, who will check out the welded joints of the pipelines. The check out will be conducted by the experts of the State Quality Management of the State Concern “Turkmen oil and gas construction” ("Turkmenneftegazstroy"), and it begins with a visual inspection, which reveals, above all, external defects such as: geometric deviations seam, external pores and cracks, undercuts, flecks. The check out will be done for each and every welding joint of the pipeline. Most of the defects are hidden inside the metal or has such a small size that they can be detected by roentgenoscopy and ultrasonic flaw inspection.

Meantime, the workers are now installing supports for electrochemical facilities and laying the road for the maintenance of gas pipeline.

The TAPI gas pipeline construction work is arranged on shift works. One of the main requirements is to provide construction team of workers with houserooms and its necessary life-support infrastructures during the construction period. The construction camps’ location is quite remote from the settlements. This type of housing requires peculiarities in its maintenance because it is surrounded by severe nature of the Karakum desert. It will be primarily equipped with split-systems. Currently not far from the settlement Ymam Baba of Yolotan County it is getting settled the residential town built for workers of TAPI gas pipeline.

In an area of about two hectares, it is already installed prefabricated panel houses, but soon there will be brand new residential complex with separate modules, each is designed to accommodate two people. Temporary dining area is now working, and the work for further improvement of the construction camp will continue. The construction shifts camp with all necessary infrastructures is designed for comfortable accommodation of experts. In addition to the main gas pipeline it there will be a number of additional facilities such as: a central control panel, administrative-household complex, compressor station with the capacity of 30 billion cubic meters per year.

As a result of above, it will be new jobs opening in near future because the social aspect of domestic policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is one of the key components in the implementation of the TAPI project.
