In 2022, it will be 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations of Turkmenistan with many states of the world, which became the recognition of its international legal personality as an independent state. Diplomatic relations are the main form of maintaining official relations between sovereign states and other subjects of international law.

The first state to establish diplomatic relations with independent Turkmenistan on January 6, 1992 was the People's Republic of China. Noting the special symbolic significance of this historical fact at a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Turkmenistan Qian Naicheng, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted with deep satisfaction that during this period, bilateral friendly ties and productive partnership based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit, respect and trust, have been actively developed and continue to grow steadily for the benefit of the two peoples. January was also marked by the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Kingdom of Denmark, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The first half of this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations of Turkmenistan both with its closest neighbors - the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic State of Afghanistan, as well as with other states of Asia, Europe and America - the Republic of Turkey, the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Cuba, Republic of Korea, Spain, Federal Republic of Germany, Kingdom of Sweden, Swiss Confederation, United States of America, Japan, Canada, Republic of India, Italian Republic. The establishment of diplomatic relations was formalized in the form of an exchange of notes or letters, protocols and joint communiqués, declarations and memoranda. Over the past decades, Turkmenistan has significantly expanded its diplomatic presence in the world and currently maintains diplomatic relations with 151 states of the world.

March 2 marks the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's membership in the United Nations Organization, relations with which over the past years have reached the level of strategic partnership. Currently, our country is a member of 13 Councils, Committees and Commissions of the UN. Turkmenistan is a reliable outpost of the UN in Central Asia and provides maximum assistance to ensure global peace, stability and security, consistent implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals not only at the regional, but also at the global level.
