Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a series of talks on the sidelines of the Third Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan's neighboring countries, which is taking place in the Chinese city of Tunxi. This was reported by the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
In particular, R. Meredov met with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki.
During the talks, the parties stressed the importance of developing and strengthening bilateral relations in all areas of cooperation. The interlocutors considered topical issues in the field of political, diplomatic, trade-economic and humanitarian cooperation.
The parties noted the effectiveness of the Turkmen-Afghan talks held during the visit of the Afghan minister to Turkmenistan in January this year.
An exchange of views also took place on the implementation of joint infrastructure projects, such as the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line and railway projects.
The diplomats stressed the need to further intensify the Turkmen-Afghan cooperation in the field of security.
A meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Wang Yi.
During the meeting, the heads of the foreign ministries discussed a wide range of issues related to the implementation of bilateral agreements reached during contacts at the highest state level in 2021-2022.
It was noted that this meeting is a good opportunity to exchange views on the current state of the Turkmen-Chinese friendly relations, which are of a strategic nature. Thus, the ministers stressed that the Committee for Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the PRC, which works in four main areas, such as trade, energy, security and culture, is an effective mechanism for interstate interaction.
The heads of the foreign ministries also stated the effectiveness of the multilateral dialogue between Turkmenistan and China within the framework of international and regional structures, support of mutual initiatives. The effectiveness of the Central Asia-China Summit was emphasized.
Much attention was also paid to the situation in Afghanistan. The Ministers emphasized the timeliness of this regional dialogue. In this context, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan and China are engaged in a dialogue on the Afghan issue on a permanent and systematic basis.
In this regard, the parties stated the closeness and similarity of the positions of Turkmenistan and China on topical issues of the regional and global agenda, primarily related to ensuring global peace and security.
Also, the head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry held talks in Chinese Tunxi with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir Abdollahian.
The parties exchanged views on the current state of trade and economic relations between the two states and the prospects for their development.
In particular, the possibilities of increasing bilateral trade turnover, cooperation in the energy sector, and intensifying partnerships in the field of transport were considered.
The heads of the foreign ministries also discussed certain regional and international topics of mutual interest.
