Today, a regular working meeting of women from the countries of Central Asia was held via a digital system, which was organized as part of our country’s presidency of the Dialogue of Women in Central Asia in 2022. The meeting was attended by the Chairwoman of the Mejlis of Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, representatives of the Dialogue from the Central Asian states and relevant agencies of the United Nations.

The agenda included a discussion of the annual work plan, as well as the Regulations of this organization.

Prior to the working part of the meeting, the participants from the Central Asian countries congratulated their Turkmen colleagues on the recent presidential elections in Turkmenistan, expressing confidence that under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov our country would continue to follow the course of progressive reforms in all areas, including gender equality.

As the speakers noted, the main goal of the Dialogue, established in December 2020 with the support from the UN Development Program and the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, is to step up comprehensive regional ties aimed at promoting wide-ranging cooperation in various fields.

This completely new high-level platform for development and strengthening of cooperation between women in the Central Asian region is gaining more weight and influence in the current epoch. At present, the Dialogue has become a functional and demanded regional resource.

Speaking about plans for the coming period, the participants spoke in favor of holding various events on the topics of women’s political activities, including issues related to peace and security, expanding their economic opportunities, protecting their rights and interests in the countries of Central Asia.

The main focus was on the activities that will be carried out during Turkmenistan’s presidency of the Dialogue. In this context, promising vectors of the forthcoming work aimed at promoting gender equality were discussed, including cooperation in this area with the UN, its divisions and other specialized international organizations.
