Turkmenistan prepares for an interactive dialogue on development of the Universal Periodic Review with the United Nations Human Rights Council, which is planned for November 6, 2023 in Geneva. The given point was discussed during the seminar, which was held by the Government of Turkmenistan together with the United Nations Development Program.
The Universal Periodic Review is a unique mechanism of the Human Rights Council that calls for each UN member state to undergo a peer review of its human rights records every 4.5 years. Turkmenistan participates in dialogues on the Universal Periodic Review.
The country delivered the report of third cycle of UPR in 2018 and adopted 172 recommendations of 193.
The project of the national report of Turkmenistan on UPR will promote efforts of the country on observance of international obligations in the field of human rights and accelerate realization of the Agenda in the field of sustainable development for the period up to 2030.
The working meeting was held with participation of international expert of UNDP Tomas Baranovas, representatives of the Parliament of Turkmenistan, corresponding ministries and departments as well as the Office of the Ombudsman of the country.
