On 11 November 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko.
During the meeting, the parties discussed present areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN, including its specialized agencies.
Special focus at the meeting was made on climate issues. The parties discussed precise ways of collaboration on the implementation of the Roadmap for 2025-2026 on Strengthening International Cooperation of Turkmenistan to Implement the Goals and Objectives stipulated by the Global Methane Pledge.
The diplomats also exchanged views on the implementation of Turkmenistan’s initiative to establish a Regional Centre for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia. In particular, they underlined the importance of exchanging experience between specialists on a systematic basis, strengthening partnership between the focal points of the states of the region addressing climate change issues, etc.
The parties also discussed preparations to joint events to be held before the end of the year.
The sides also discussed matters related to the plans for the next year, declared by the UN General Assembly as the International Year of Peace and Trust upon the initiative of Turkmenistan.
