The Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Dovletmammet Azady held a refresher course for teachers of the country.

The event was organised in a hybrid format from 4th to 16th of November at the faculty of advanced training of the institute for teachers of Russian and English languages of secondary and higher educational institutions of the capital and velayats of the country.

The training program included scientific and methodological seminars, lectures, classes for Turkmen teachers, held under the guidance of experienced teachers of the TNIWL named after D. Azady, as well as specialists from a number of foreign universities who took part in the meetings online. During the training, the main emphasis was placed on the modern development of the education system and deepening the knowledge of teachers.

Thus, the topic of methods of teaching vocabulary was presented at one of the seminars by a teacher of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, candidate of philological sciences A.I. Usmanova. Associate Professor of the Department of Comparative Study of Languages of this university, candidate of philological sciences M.L. Gordievskaya held a lesson on the topic of «Russian as a second foreign language».

The importance of teaching Russian as a second foreign language through tests was discussed at the event by I.Y.Ilicheva, a methodologist at the Language Testing Centre of the St. Petersburg State University.

Current issues of discourse studies were covered for Turkmen colleagues by L.V.Selezneva, a professor at the State Institute of the Russian Language named after A.S. Pushkin and Doctor of Philology.

As a continuation of the course for improving the professional training of Turkmen teachers, a lesson on the topic of «Advanced Lesson Management» was also held by Dr. John Baker, a professor at the University of Economics and Finance of Vietnam, and Dr. Rob Waring, a professor at the Japanese University of Notre Dame Seishin, spoke on the topic of «Extracurricular Education».

The advanced training course allowed teachers of Russian and English to acquire new knowledge about methodological features, modern methods and innovative technologies for effective teaching of foreign languages.

The seminars were held as part of the implementation of tasks to improve the qualifications and improve the teaching of foreign languages, set by the state before representatives of the education sector of Turkmenistan.
