A thematic seminar titled "Energy Efficiency of Equipment – Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Heat Pumps: Climate and Refrigerants" was held at the innovative scientific-educational center of the International University of Oil and Gas named after Y. Kakayev.

The event was organized by the Ozone Center under the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan. Attendees included university faculty and students, employees of the State Service "Turkmenstandartlary," and refrigeration technicians. The seminar presented the results of Turkmenistan's implementation of international global ozone agreements, such as the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, along with its five amendments.

The Montreal Protocol is generally regarded as successful, having led to a worldwide ban on the production and consumption of over 100 ozone-depleting substances. Turkmenistan is responsibly fulfilling its international obligations by reducing the use of banned and regulated freons under the Protocol and transitioning its domestic cooling market to alternative natural refrigerants that are neutral to both ozone and climate. A schedule was presented for phasing out refrigerant gases subject to quotas and regulation, along with the potential of new-generation mixtures that are already included with equipment like automobiles, air conditioners and industrial refrigerators.

Lectures and practical sessions were conducted for students and faculty of the university's "Compressor and Refrigeration Units" department, which trains specialists for the food and fuel-energy sectors. These sessions featured Russian expert Alexander Chukhchin from UNIDO, who discussed the potential of natural refrigerants such as ammonia, butane, isobutane, carbon dioxide and propylene, as well as safety rules for handling them.

It is noteworthy that over 200 specialists have been trained at the center in a year and a half.
