On January 27, Turkmenistan citizens celebrate the national holiday – Defender of the Fatherland Day. Alongside professionals in uniform, all citizens of our country observe this date. Military personnel, who are ready to defend their people at the cost of their own lives in difficult moments, are held in great respect both in cities and villages.

The exhibition hall of the State Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan has been dedicated to showcasing works by Turkmen artists in honor of this holiday. Nikolai Chervyakov's multi-figure painting "Artists–Frontline Soldiers" is at the center of the exhibition. The artist depicted 18 painters, among whom are recognizable figures such as I. Klychev, V. Pavlotsky, N. Dovodov, M. Daneshvar, and others. This painting serves as a starting point for the exhibition's narrative about those challenging times experienced by both frontline soldiers and those on the home front.

Full of tragedy is Robert Shabunts’s painting "Departure to the Front," which portrays elderly parents bidding farewell to their only son as he leaves for war. The final moments of parting are filled with an inseparable mix of hope for a better outcome and fear of misfortune. Yet all three maintain their dignity, which only heightens the emotional tension of the moment.

Toyly Khajiev’s painting "Return from the Front" tells the story of a soldier returning home in the back of a truck after being hospitalized. Clutching his crutches close to him, he cannot get enough of breathing in the air of his native village. Among the homes of his fellow villagers stands his own house, where his dearest and most cherished loved ones eagerly await his return.

Gulnazar Bekmyradov created a unique painting titled "Mother, We Returned with Victory." The artist depicted what might be considered the happiest woman on Earth at that moment. Her sons have returned home safe and sound! There is no greater joy in the world! Viewers, looking at this painting, deeply empathize with her explosion of happiness.

In a similar vein, sculptor Velmyrat Jumayev crafted a small group sculpture titled "Meeting the Frontline Soldier." A young woman gently rests her head on her husband’s shoulder, as if saying: "I waited so long for you," while their daughter, with her arms raised in joy, can barely contain the words bursting from her lips: "My dad is a hero!"

The exhibition also features many portraits of frontline soldiers. These are the faces of victors who selflessly forged victory over the enemy. Numerous paintings are dedicated to border guards who continue to reliably safeguard the State Border even in peacetime.

Once again, this exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to feel pride for professionals in uniform and to congratulate them on Defender of the Fatherland Day.
