The cultural heritage of Turkmenistan is a unique combination of art, sustainability and respect for nature. A special place in it is occupied by crafts, which are an integral part of both the tangible and intangible cultural wealth of the country.

In 2024, the first non-profit public organization "Mirasly senet" (Heritage of Craft) appeared in Turkmenistan. Its activities are aimed at preserving, reviving and further developing traditional crafts, combining the centuries-old skills of ancestors with modern approaches for a new generation of craftsmen.

The organization covers such directions as processing silk and wool, the revival of unique manual weaving technologies, the restoration of rare patterns, felting and environmental staining on a plant basis.

Under the leadership of Chairman and founder Jennet Garlieva, the creator of the Turkmen brand "Iner düýe ýüñi" ("Unique camel wool"), the organization creates a creative space for cooperation and exchange of experience between craftsmen and designers.

– The mission of our organization is to support women artisans. Providing them with the necessary resources, training, and opportunities for social and economic growth. In addition, we pay attention to documenting and practicing forgotten crafts in order to preserve them for future generations," notes Jennet Garlieva.

The preservation of the traditions of handicrafts, such as Turkmen carpet weaving, the art of embroidery, the skill of making a dutar and the art of performing on it, as well as the art of bakhshi, acquires special importance in the light of their international recognition. Over the years, these traditions have been included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which highlights their value and opens up new horizons for development and actualization.

Combining masters from all the velayats of the country known for their unique products, “Mirasly senet” presents Turkmen crafts on the international stage through exhibitions and cooperation. One of the recent significant events was the participation of the organization with its own stand at the Exhibition of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs dedicated to the 17th anniversary of the formation of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
