On the 2nd of June, a scientific and practical conference on ecology was held at the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Nyyazov with the participation of the faculty, graduate students, young scientists and students of the university.
The forum on the topic «Ecological Culture - the Basis of Sustainable Development» was timed to coincide with World Environment Day, the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and the International Year of Peace and Trust.
The plenary session heard reports on ensuring environmental well-being, environmental culture and methodological features of environmental education and upbringing of students in universities, international cooperation in achieving environmental security of the country, and the foundations of the environmental policy of the Turkmen state.
The conference then continued its work in four sections: «Environmental Policy - the Key to Sustainable Development», «The Role of Environmental Prospects in Science, Education and Upbringing of the Youth», «Principles of Environmental Safety - an Important Requirement of the Time», «The Role of Natural and Exact Sciences in the Innovative Development of Turkmenistan».
The speeches of participants spoke about the high role and broad opportunities of the national education and science sphere in ensuring the environmental well-being of the country. The importance of training specialists in this area and research activities in higher education institutions of the country was mainly emphasised.
It was noted that the university, in particular, the Faculty of Agroecology and the Department of Ecology, effectively study important issues related to environmental protection on a scientific basis, and also train high-level specialists in various specialties in this field.
As emphasised in the reports, Turkmenistan pays special attention to issues of ecology, environmental protection, ensuring environmental safety, rational use of natural resources, preserving them in their natural state and enriching them for future generations. Large-scale activities in the state in this area are reflected in the «National Strategy of Turkmenistan on Climate Change», «National Forest Program of Turkmenistan for 2021-2025», «National Program of Turkmenistan on the Aral Sea for 2021-2025».
The speakers noted that in order to ensure environmental well-being, greening campaigns are regularly carried out in the country, and special importance is attached to the preservation and enhancement of the unique natural resources of Turkmenistan.
