Russian universities offer opportunities for students from Turkmenistan

As part of the International exhibition «Healthcare, education, and sports in the era of the Revival of the new epoch of the Powerful state», held in Ashgabat, a platform was organised for the presentation of Turkmenistan's leading higher education institutions.

Universities from the Republic of Belarus, Malaysia, the People's Republic of China, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Türkiye were also represented at the exhibition. Diplomatic missions and international organisations with which Turkmenistan actively cooperates in the field of education also participated in the event.

Guests and participants of the event had the opportunity to directly communicate with representatives of these educational institutions to obtain detailed information about admission requirements and educational programs. In particular, representatives of the Russian technological university (RTU MIREA), one of the leading higher education institutions in the Russian Federation, located in Moscow, presented detailed information about their university.

RTU MIREA offers a wide range of educational programs, covering both the humanities and high-tech fields. Various admission pathways are available for international applicants, including those from Turkmenistan. Among the most popular is the quota campaign organised through Rossotrudnichestvo. University representatives also noted growing interest in the master's programs available to international bachelor's degree graduates.

Annagul Kuvadova, a third-year student at MIREA, shared her experience:

–I'm in my third year of studying chemistry. When I applied, I was worried that I'd be immersed solely in a specific field. But at the university, I'm receiving a comprehensive education, and as part of my specialisation, I'm studying the basics of programming, along with subjects related to statistics, data analysis, and the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies. Extracurricular activities are very active. For example, I sing in the university choir; we often give concerts and have even been fortunate enough to perform on stage at the Moscow conservatory named after Tchaikovsky. I'm now planning to become a mentor for first-year students, including those from Turkmenistan, to support them in their studies.

Irina Yegoyeva, head of the academic department at the Institute of international education at the Russian technological university, noted:

–We are particularly proud that a significant portion of our international student body are citizens of Turkmenistan. Currently, the university enrolls approximately 1,500 international students from 86 countries, and the majority of them—approximately 500 are from Turkmenistan. They study in a wide range of fields, from chemistry and software engineering to graphic design.

As a reminder, Russia has allocated 500 budget quotas for Turkmen citizens for the 2026/2027 academic year, providing them with the opportunity to receive free higher education at Russian universities. Applications are now open. To participate, please register on the Education in Russia portal.
