In shaping its approaches to water-related issues, Turkmenistan seeks to pursue a policy aimed at achieving broad consensus in addressing the preservation and rational use of water resources at the regional level. Responding to emerging challenges of recent years, the country has been actively engaging in international cooperation on water matters. Another indication of this commitment was Turkmenistan’s participation in the regional seminar “Water Challenges in Central Asia” held in Tashkent as part of the Blue Peace Central Asia (BPCA) initiative.
It should be noted that the success of Turkmenistan’s water resource management strategy largely depends on the extent to which it is integrated into the overall system of responding to growing challenges. Regional cooperation in this regard will undoubtedly lead to improved coordination in information exchange, greater preventive capacity of implemented measures, and enhancement of those measures through alignment with national development plans.

The meeting was attended by representatives of various water management institutions and international organizations from the region. Turkmenistan was represented by specialists from the State Committee for Water Management, the ministries of environmental protection and education, researchers from the Center for Strategic Studies of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as other scholars.
During the plenary sessions, seminar participants exchanged views on the need for joint management of small transboundary rivers and identified priority areas for cooperation in the coming years. Scientists and specialists from water management agencies also highlighted key areas for collaborative actions aimed at the rational use of the region’s water resources and developed measures to adapt to climate change.
