Development plans for the country’s key economic sector—the oil and gas complex—were approved at the first Cabinet of Ministers meeting of 2026, held via a digital system. During the meeting, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov endorsed tasks aimed at increasing export potential and introducing innovations in the fuel and energy complex.
In the coming year, special attention will be given to the implementation of large-scale energy initiatives. Among the top priorities is the continuation of construction of an important component of the TAPI gas pipeline—the Serhetabat–Herat section, known as “Arkadagyň ak ýoly.” This project is a key link in supplying Turkmen gas to South Asia. Another priority is the launch of subsequent phases of development of the supergiant “Galkynyş” gas field to ensure stable volumes of gas production.
According to the report of Deputy Prime Minister B. Amanov, the activities of the relevant sectoral agencies in 2026 will be structured along the following lines.
The state concerns “Türkmengaz” and “Türkmennebit” will focus on the extraction of natural and associated gas, oil, and condensate; increasing the production of liquefied gas; expanding the geography of exports of “blue fuel”; and deep processing of raw materials to supply high-quality petroleum products to both domestic consumers and foreign markets.
The state concern “Türkmengeologiýa” will continue the search for new promising hydrocarbon strata, solid mineral resources, and groundwater, using advanced scientific achievements.
In this context, the President of Turkmenistan instructed that the introduction of digital systems and innovative technologies into production processes be scaled up. The head of state emphasized that the main goal is the consistent increase in oil and gas production volumes through the efficient utilization of the capacities of all enterprises in the sector.
