“Let’s Read Together!”: A Competition to Be Held in Turkmenistan for World Book and Copyright Day

On April 23, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan will host the “Let’s Read Together!” competition among university students of the country, dedicated to World Book and Copyright Day.

The competition is organized by the UNESCO Club “Culture of Peace” of the Institute of International Relations of the MFA of Turkmenistan and the Berkararlyk Etrap Council of Ashgabat of the Magtymguly Youth Organization of Turkmenistan.

The main objectives of the competition are to stimulate young people’s interest in reading, enrich their knowledge, identify young talents, broaden students’ horizons, and improve their public speaking and oratory skills.

The competition will be conducted in English. Each higher educational institution may nominate three students or master’s degree candidates to participate.

As part of the competition, participants are required to deliver a presentation on a work of world literature of their choice.

Participants’ presentations will be evaluated according to the following criteria: content, speech skills, grammatical accuracy, and oratory ability.

An independent jury will determine the winners. The best participants, awarded the Grand Prix as well as first, second, and third prizes, will receive corresponding diplomas and awards.

Those wishing to participate must submit the text of their presentation on the selected work to the organizing committee. Contact details: +99312266160; tdimddk@gmail.com.

The organization of this competition highlights Turkmenistan’s continued commitment to developing multilateral cooperation with the United Nations and its specialized agencies, particularly UNESCO, as well as joint efforts to strengthen peace and stability, protect cultural heritage, and advance science and education.

International dates established by the United Nations are of particular importance in this context. Among them is World Book and Copyright Day, established by UNESCO in 1995, which aims to promote reading, publishing, and the protection of intellectual property, and to remind us that books serve as a reliable bridge between generations, cultures, and nations.
