A Turkmen-Chinese Business Forum was held in Ashgabat, serving as an important platform for discussing the prospects of bilateral economic partnership. One of the key areas of business dialogue was the electric power industry—a sector in which Turkmenistan is demonstrating rapid growth and a strong readiness to implement innovative solutions in cooperation with Chinese partners.

Speaking at the forum, Deputy Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan S. Saparov emphasized that the systematic strengthening of the industry’s material and technical base has been made possible by the far-sighted economic strategy of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag, which is now being successfully implemented under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Today, country’s energy sector comprises 11 power plants with a total installed capacity of an impressive 7,000 MW.

“This capacity enables us not only to reliably meet domestic demand, but also to increase electricity exports to neighboring countries on an annual basis,” noted S. Saparov.

Special attention in his address was given to the environmental agenda and Turkmenistan’s commitments under international conventions. The country has firmly embarked on a course toward decarbonization and the development of renewable energy sources. A landmark event for Turkmenistan will be the commissioning of its first hybrid solar-wind power plant.

“In the Balkan velayat, in the Gyzylarbat etrap, a 10 MW hybrid solar-wind power plant has already been prepared for commissioning. The launch of this facility will symbolize the beginning of the large-scale introduction of green energy in our sector,” stated S. Saparov.

The Deputy Minister added that, in this area, the People’s Republic of China remains one of Turkmenistan’s priority partners in the implementation of high-tech projects. In particular, a major proposal is currently under consideration.

“We highly value our partnership with China. At present, proposals from Power China for the construction of a 300 MW solar power plant are being studied. It is important to emphasize that, as part of the project, the company is offering long-term concessional financing,” said S. Saparov.

The implementation of such initiatives will not only strengthen the region’s energy security, but will also give new momentum to Turkmen-Chinese relations, steering them toward innovative and “green” development.
