Turkmenistan and OpenAI Discussed Prospects for Cooperation on the Practical Application of AI in Education

As part of a working visit to London for the Education World Forum 2026, the delegation of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan continues to participate in thematic sessions, expert discussions, and bilateral meetings with international organizations and companies working in the fields of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, educational reform management, teacher training, and the evaluation of educational technologies.

The practical possibilities of using artificial intelligence in the education system were discussed in detail during a working meeting between the Turkmen delegation and OpenAI.

The main focus was placed on two areas of cooperation: the use of AI to improve the quality of education and the development of AI literacy among schoolchildren, students, teachers, and administrative personnel.

The Turkmen side presented information on the ongoing digitalization of education in the country, the development of electronic educational platforms, and the creation of an analytical system based on data related to academic performance, attendance, workload, educational pathways, and learning outcomes.

Representatives of OpenAI spoke about the possibility of piloting ChatGPT Edu or similar solutions in selected educational institutions. The discussions covered the selection of target groups, teacher training, guidelines for the safe use of AI, data protection, academic integrity, and the assessment of the impact of such tools on educational outcomes.

The parties also considered the possibility of including a research component in future projects so that the implementation of AI would be accompanied by an analysis of its actual impact on the quality of education, student independence, skills development, and teaching effectiveness.

As further steps for cooperation, the parties outlined the study of possible formats for pilot initiatives, the identification of priority areas for the application of AI in education, and the consideration of organizing a student hackathon or other events aimed at developing practical AI skills.

The meeting confirmed the mutual interest in developing cooperation in the areas of the responsible use of AI, digital educational analytics, teacher training, and the development of modern competencies required for the future labor market.
