The «Turkmenfilm» Association named after Oguzhan is working on a 30-minute feature film, «Theatre – my destiny!» («Teatr – meniň ykbalym!»), which tells about the origins and modern achievements of national theatre art. Director of the film is Rahymberdi Annagulyyev, and the screenwriter is Baymyrat Musayev.

The new film will chronologically recreate the development of the Turkmen stage. Viewers will see how elements of professional theatrical art emerged in ancient Nisa, the traditional equestrian competitions of the Oguz han epoch, and the cultural centres of Margiana and Dehistan.

Filming will cover the entire theatrical map of the country. The film crew will capture leading stages of the capital: the Main academic drama theatre named after Saparmyrat Turkmenbashy the Great, the National music and drama theatre named after Magtymguly, the National drama theatre named after Alp Arslan, the State puppet theatre, the Student theatre named after Mollanepes, and the State Russian drama theatre named after A.S. Pushkin.

Separate stories will be dedicated to the state drama theatres of the Balkan, Mary, Lebap, and Dashoguz velayats and the city of Arkadag.

The film will feature prominent actors, directors, and artists who laid the foundations of the Turkmen stage. The film will include unique archival footage, fragments from performances, and memories of the artists.

The new project aims to remind people that theatre remains a vital institution for the spiritual and moral education of young people. The film is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2026.
