The Centuries-Long History of Turkmenistan's National Pedagogical Heritage in a New Publication

The State Publishing Service of Turkmenistan has recently released the first volume of the multi-volume publication "The History of the Origin and Development of National Pedagogical Thought in Turkmenistan." The book is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan's Independence and was prepared by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, the National Institute of Education, the Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute, as well as the Hydyr Deryayev Pedagogical School. The scientific editing of the publication was carried out by Doctor of Biological Sciences S.K. Durdyyev. The book has been recommended by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan as a textbook.

The publication examines the formation and development of pedagogical thought on the territory of Turkmenistan from ancient times to the 16th century, the history of the formation of educational institutions, as well as the traditions of teaching and upbringing of the younger generation. The materials presented are based on historical and cultural monuments, written sources, archaeological finds, works of folk art, archival documents and the ethnopedagogical heritage of the Turkmen people.

The textbook consists of two chapters, eleven sections and thirty subsections. The first chapter covers the development of pedagogical ideas from ancient times to the 7th century, including the eras of the Parthian and Gokturk states. The second chapter is devoted to the development of pedagogical views in the 7th–16th centuries.

Particular attention is paid to the educational and upbringing traditions reflected in the works "Oguznama," the epics "Gorogly" and "Gorkut-ata," as well as the pedagogical ideas of outstanding thinkers of the East. Separate sections reveal the significance of the work "Kowusnama" in the development of pedagogical thought and the upbringing of the younger generation.
