President of Turkmenistan congratulates the compatriots on the Turkmen Melon Day. In his address the Turkmen leader noted that the world glory of Turkmen melons is being revived owing to hard work of our courageous melon and watermelon growers, who have inherited and enriched the ancestors’ farming practices with new techniques. They also gain remarkable achievements in cultivation of melons and watermelons – the sweetest fruits of our fertile land recognized as the delicacies of paradise.
The President of Turkmenistan noted that extant historical written documents which preserved from remotest antiquity stated that in earlier times famous Turkmen melons in special copper and lead dishes were delivered fresh to Arab countries and European states and became one of dainties for sheikhs and rulers. It is in that historians’ records stated that Turkmenistan was an early centre of melon growing. At present 1,600 melon varieties from all over the world have been registered at the scientific fund of the Turkmen melon growing, and it is pleasant that over 400 of them are the fruit of paradise cultivated on the Turkmen land, the agricultural heritage of our people.
Turkmen melons cultivated by our people for many millennia and brought to perfection have attracted attention of world-renowned scientists, historians, travellers since ancient times received gold medals of the prestigious international exhibitions increasing its glory. “In order to reach new heights in melon and watermelon growing the comprehensive state support will be always provided to farmers in the Turkmen land”, stated the Turkmen leader in his address.
