President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, who had arrived in Turkmenistan for an official visit, held talks at the Oguzkhan presidential palace complex in the Turkmen capital.
The agenda of the Turkmen-Tajik top level talks covered the critical issues of bilateral relations, including water and energy issues.
The leaders of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral relations and considered the issues of international and regional politics of mutual interest. The leaders of the states unanimously called for the intensification of partnership in all the areas and agreed to use existing opportunities and possibilities for this purpose.
After the leaders of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan concluded the one-on-one talks, the government delegations of the two states joined in the talks in the Gorkut Ata Hall where President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon addressed those present.
In his statement the President of Turkmenistan emphasized that recent years had been characterized by the dynamic development of trade and economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. In 2011, bilateral trade increased by about 60 percent as compared to the same period of the previous year.
Taking an opportunity, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited the delegation of Tajikistan to participate in the VII Forum of Academic and Creative Intelligentsia of the CIS, which Ashgabat would be hosting on October 15-16 this year.
The President Turkmenistan also suggested that a symposium on the development of tourism and health resort business be held in the Archman health resort in Turkmenistan in 2013.
The ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place after the talks between the government delegations of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
The leaders of the two friendly states affixed their signatures to the Turkmen-Tajik Joint Communiqué to the applause of those present.

After the press conference another landmark event took place in the Marble Hall of the Oguzkhan palace complex – the solemn ceremony of presenting President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon with one of the highest government awards of Turkmenistan – the Bitaraplyk Order.
Presenting the Bitarplyk Order, the President of Turkmenistan emphasized that this award was an expression of sincere gratitude of the Turkmen people for the profound contribution to successful cooperation between our countries, the support for neutrality of Turkmenistan and the outstanding achievements in economy, culture, science and international relations and a testimony of the commitment to the ties of brotherhood and friendship between our peoples.
On that day the President of Tajikistan visited the Turkmen State Institute of Economy and Management where an exposition of the Turkmen institutions of higher education and an exhibition of Turkmenistan’s economic achievements had been arranged.
The title of Honorary Professor of the Turkmen State Institute of Economy and Management was awarded to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan at the decision of the Higher Attestation Committee.
To the applause of those present the diploma and the Professor’s gown and headpiece were presented to the Tajik leader.
Addressing those present, Mr. Emomali Rahmon noted that he considered it a great honour to be Honorary Professor of one of the leading institution of higher education of Turkmenistan which was another evidence for the ties of friendship and cooperation between the Turkmen and Tajik peoples and the traditions of brotherhood maintained by our youth nowadays.
In the afternoon President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon visited Gypjak where he paid tribute to memory of the first President of Turkmenistan and laid flowers to his mausoleum. The Tajik leader visited the Turkmenbashi Spirituality Mosque.
The President of the Republic of Tajikistan laid flowers to the Constitution Monument and visited the museum located inside the magnificent monument. President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon planted a tree in the Park of Guests of Honour as a symbol of eternal friendship between the two nations.
Then the Tajik leader visited the Main National Museum in Ashgabat where the distinguished guest got acquainted with the rich collections and unique expositions – the evidence of the ancient culture of the Turkmen people and wrote an entry to the Book of Guests of Honour. Also, the leader of Tajikistan visited the Winter Sports Complex in the Turkmen capital.
In the evening an official reception was given on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in honour of President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon at the Oguzkhan palace complex. The leaders of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan gave the speeches during the official reception. The members of the official delegations of the two countries attended the official reception.
