The top level talks between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Latvia Andris Berzins started in the capital of Latvia.
During the meeting held in the atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, in a business and constructive way, the two leaders discussed a wide spectrum of issues of the Turkmen-Latvian cooperation specifying its priority vectors. Among the key spheres were defined the trading and economic, transport and communication sectors, energy sector and a number of other industrial areas as well as humanitarian and cultural sphere as an integral component of the intergovernmental dialogue.
The President of Turkmenistan and the President of the Republic of Latvia exchanged their views on a number of urgent issues of the regional and international policy that were of particular interest for the both countries.
The Turkmen leader invited the President of the Republic of Latvia to pay an official visit to Turkmenistan at any convenient time. The invitation was accepted with gratitude. The dates of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
Then, the talks continued in an expanded format with participation of the members of government delegations of the two countries in the Latvian Hall. In conclusion of the top level talks, the ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place.
Under the applause of those present at the ceremony President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Latvia Andris Berzins signed the Joint Communiqué.
The Programme on cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia for 2012-2014 and the Convention between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Latvia on avoiding the double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and capital were signed during the ceremony.
In conclusion of the signing ceremony, the leaders of the two countries made a brief address to the media in the Lubek Hall.
Then Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Andris Berzins laid flowers to the Monument of Freedom paying tribute to the national heroes of Latvia with silence minute.
Within the framework of the official visit to the Republic of Latvia the President of Turkmenistan met with Speaker of the Saeima (the National Parliament of Latvia) Ms. Solvita Aboltina and members of the official delegation of the Saeima.
That day President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the historical and cultural sights of the capital of Latvia.
In the evening, the President of the Republic of Latvia gave an official dinner in honor of the distinguished guest. During the dinner the leaders of the two countries exchanged the speeches.
