The official visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Latvia completed. The key trends of cooperation were defined during the first meeting of the leaders of the two countries, who discussed the potential of efficient partnership in the fuel and energy sector, agriculture as well as in such spheres as transport, communication and telecommunications, trade, tourism, education, science and culture.
On the second day, the President of Turkmenistan visited one of the most prestigious higher educational establishments in Latvia – Riga P.Stradins University, where Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia Roberts Kilis, Chairman of the Latvian Rectors' Council, Chairman of the Commission for Strategic Development under the President of the Republic of Latvia Janis Vetra, Pro-rector and Director of the Institute of Stomatology of Riga Stadins University, Prof. Ilga Urtane cordially greeted the distinguished guest.
The President of Turkmenistan got acquainted with the key directions of work and scientific achievements of the Riga Stadins University, including the Institute of Stomatology. The Turkmen leader invited the Latvian colleagues to promote cooperation and share experience with their Turkmen specialists.
From the Riga Stadins University the cortege of the President of Turkmenistan headed to the Freeport of Riga.
President of the Republic of Latvia Andris Berzins, Minister for Transport of the Republic of Latvia Aivis Ronis, Riga Freeport Administrator Leonids Loginovs, and other officials cordially greeted President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the main entrance to the administrative building of the Freeport of Riga. The Turkmen leader familiarized with the work of the port and went for a row in the Freeport Aquatorium.
The President of Turkmenistan also got acquainted with the work of the Vessel Traffic Service in the Freeport of Riga Aquatorium and visited the Riga shipyard.
Then the Turkmen leader’s cortege headed to Jurmala, the largest resort town in Latvia and Baltic States located 25 kilometres from Riga.
The Chairman of the City Duma, the Mayor of the City and the Head of Department for Tourism and Foreign Relations welcomed the distinguished guest on the square in front of the Baltic Beach Hotel.
The talks between the President of Turkmenistan and the Mayor of Jurmala, who told about the sights of the sea resort and the plans for its further development, took place in the Baltic Beach Hotel.
Upon completion of the talks, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov thanked the Mayor for the hospitality and bidding farewell to the Latvian officials headed to the Riga International Airport.
From the air harbor in the capital of the Republic of Latvia the President of Turkmenistan left for Ashgabat. A few hours later the President's airliner landed at the International airport in the Turkmen capital, where the high ranking officials greeted the Turkmen leader.
