President of Turkmenistan makes working trip round Ashgabat

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a working trip round the Turkmen capital to see the progress in implementing the urban development programme and construction projects of social facilities.

An old partner of Turkmenistan in the sphere of municipal engineering, the Polimeks Turkish construction company is engaged in construction of the Olympic Village in the Turkmen capital. During the meeting CEO of Polimeks Insaat A.S. Erol Tabanca reported on the existing situation on the construction sites expressing high interest in the continuation of the mutually beneficial cooperation.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov headed to a luxurious hotel designed for 800 visitors, generally – journalists who will cover international sports competitions. The general plan of the Olympic Village as well as models of the facilities to be built there within the framework of the first turn of construction of this sports complex were presented to the Turkmen leader for consideration at the 9th floor of the hotel.

Among them are indoor track and field complex, and water complex designed for 5,000 places, outdoor water complex and aqua park, indoor tennis court with seats designed for 4,000 spectators, indoor swimming pool, health center, restaurants, hotels, cultural center, outdoor tennis courts, ring cycle tracks, ring tracks, outdoor and underground car park, and a number of other facilities.

Construction of the Olympic Village will be implemented in three turns. Within the framework of the project it is planned to build more than 30 facilities and reconstruct the existing Olympic Stadium increasing the number of spectator's seats up to 45,000. All necessary conditions, including a Business Center, restaurant for 1,000 visitors, car parking, etc. will be created there. The sports complex will be supplied with autonomous power substation and other engineering facilities.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that by decision of the Olympic Council of Asia the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games would be held in Ashgabat in 2017 for the first time in the region. The venue for this important sports event will the Olympic Village in the Turkmen capital. Thus, the Turkmen leader noted that implementation of this project would offer a powerful incentive for developing the sports and health-improving movement in the country and training qualified sportsmen and teams for international contests.

Foreign experts emphasized on the compliance of the place selected for construction of the Olympic Village with the level of the London-2012 Summer Olympic Games. The specialists of the Arup Company working jointly with the Polimeks Company noted that all necessary conditions there were created to hold the Asian Games at the high level.

Then Ashgabat Khyakim Sh. Durdylyyev reported on fulfillment of the Turkmen leader’s instructions and informed the Turkmen leader on the work done in the sphere of development of the transport and communications infrastructure in the Turkmen capital given the prospects of its further growth. In particular, the Ashgabat Khyakim informed the Turkmen leader on drafting the project of a new building of A. Kekilov Teachers College in Ashgabat including training building, a hostel and sports block.

Then President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov considered the projects to be implemented within the framework of the large-sale urban-planning programme taken place in Ashgabat. During the presentation the Turkmen leader got acquainted with the projects drafted by the Autohause Economic Society, including an administrative building, exposition hall and service centre.

The projects prepared by the Vozrozhdenie Company, the Russian Federation, were presented to the Turkmen leader for consideration. Among them are the projects of a section of the ring road, overpasses, interchanges as well as a number of projects on modernization of the road and transport infrastructure in the Turkmen capital, including the road to the new airport.

Upon completion of the presentation, the Turkmen leader underlined the significance of the well-thought approach towards the improvement of the territory adjacent to the sports complex and focused on the necessity to decorate all buildings given the national peculiarities.

Summing up the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that all buildings under construction should blend well with the architectural look of rapidly developing white-marble Ashgabat. The Turkmen leader bade farewell to those present wishing them outstanding successes in their work.
