President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the solemn ceremony of opening of the International Football Tournament for the Cup of the President of Turkmenistan held at the Ashgabat multifunctional stadium.
Before the ceremony, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Executive-Chairman of the World Traditional Fudokan Shotokan Karate-Do Federation (WTFSKF) Ilija Jorga, who arrived in the Turkmen capital to award the 10th Dan Diploma to the President of Turkmenistan.
To the sounds of the ceremonial march the flags of the countries taken part in the tournament appeared on the sports arena. The teams representing their countries lined up in front of the centrals stands. The stadium announcer presented each team and asked the President of Turkmenistan to open the tournament.
In accordance with the Plan of events on implementation of the Concept of Turkmenistan’s presidency over the CIS in 2012 the tournament is held in a new format. For the first time none teams representing Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan split into two groups compete for the honorary trophy.
Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan played the first match of the tournament. Turkmen footballers demonstrated high sportsmanship and won a decisive victory 5-0. The plenty of goals and support of football fans turned the match into a real festival of big football.
After the spectacular match, the President of Turkmenistan once again congratulated participants of the event on opening of the International Football Tournament and bidding farewell to those present left the stadium.
