President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Romania Traian Basescu, who had arrived in Turkmenistan for an official visit, held one-on-one in Ashgabat.
During the talks, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Romania Traian Basescu discussed the progress in implementing the bilateral agreements achieved earlier and specified the key trends of the Turkmen-Romanian cooperation underlining the availability of wide prospects for enhancing efficient cooperation in a wide spectrum of areas, including the trading and economic sphere, fuel and energy complex, transport and communications sector and other branches of the national economy as well as the humanitarian and cultural sphere.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Romania Traian Basescu also discussed a number of urgent issues of the regional and international policy that are of particular interest for the both countries. During the talks the leaders of the two states underlined the mutual aspiration of Turkmenistan and Romania for deepening and widening the fruitful cooperation in the bilateral and multilateral formats within the authoritative international organisations and structures, including the constructive dialogue established between our country and the European Union.
Then, the talks continued in an expanded format with participation of the members of government delegations of the two countries in the Gorkut Ata Hall.
Underlining that Turkmenistan and Romania possess long-term solid experience of the fruitful cooperation in the trading and economic sphere, the Turkmen leader noted that the existing indicators of the bilateral trade didn’t fully reflect the huge potential of the national economies of the two countries. Noting that the mutually beneficial Turkmen-Romanian partnership has wide prospects, President of Turkmenistan expressed belief that in near future the above-mentioned indicators would reach the level of nine-digit figures.
With the aim to establish more active scientific and educational contacts, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov suggested to hold a joint conference among young researches in the sphere of high technologies and an exhibition of innovations in this sphere next year.
President of Romania Traian Basescu called for widening the humanitarian and cultural relations between the two countries and underlined the readiness of Romania for enhancing fruitful bilateral cooperation in the sphere of education.
The ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place after the talks in the Seldjuk Khan Hall.
The Plan of actions between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania for 2013-2014, the Memorandum on Mutual Understanding between the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan and the National Office for the Prevention and Control of Money Laundering of Romania on cooperation in the sphere of exchange of financial information related to money laundering and financial terrorism; the Memorandum on Mutual Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of Romania on cooperation in the sphere of transport were signed during the ceremony.
To the applause of those present, the leaders of the two friendly states affixed their signatures to the Plan of actions on implementation of the Joint Declaration of the President of Turkmenistan and the President of Romania signed in Ashgabat on July 22, 2009.
After the ceremony the leaders of Turkmenistan and Romania gave a press conference at the Bayram Khan Hall.
“We are unison in opinion that the world community shall take constructive and consolidated approaches to consideration of the urgent problems, including the struggle against threats and dangers of the modern time as well as solution of the problems on climate change”, noted the Turkmen leader.
Underlining that with the aim to promote the efficient development of the Turkmen-Romanian partnership the parties have decided to continue the regular meetings between the foreign-policy agencies, the Turkmen leader noted that the substantial aspect of the bilateral relations was stipulated by the activation of the European vector of the foreign policy of Turkmenistan.
Highly appreciating the top level talks held on the year of the 20th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relations between the two states, President of Romania Traian Basescu cordially congratulated President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the people of Turkmenistan on the remarkable date – the 21st anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan.
The distinguished guest emphasized that during the talks focused on the priority vectors of further development of the Turkmen-Romanian partnership, the sides called for enhancement of the efficient cooperation in order to implement its huge potential that creates all necessary prerequisites to bring the traditional economic partnership to a qualitatively new level.
The Romanian leader stated that the sides confirmed the readiness to work jointly on the project on establishing a transport corridor between the Caspian and Black Seas. The prospects of the Turkmen-Romanian collaboration in the sphere of water resources at the bilateral and regional levels were discussed during the meeting.
The President of Romania highly appreciated the Turkmenistan’s readiness to enhance the constructive dialogue with the European Union as well as the initiatives of our country to supply energy resources to the European market. In this regard, President of Romania Traian Basescu reaffirmed that Romania would accelerate the ratification of the Agreement on cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
In the afternoon President of Romania Traian Basescu visited Gypjak where he paid tribute to memory of the first President of Turkmenistan and laid flowers to his mausoleum. The Romanian leader visited the Turkmenbashi Spirituality Mosque.
In the evening an official reception was given on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in honour of the distinguished guest. The leaders of Turkmenistan and Romania gave the speeches during the official reception.
