Elders’ Council meeting

The Elders’ Council meeting was held under the chairmanship of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the littoral city of Turkmenbashi. The agenda of the All-Turkmen forum focused on the primary tasks of the further social and economic development of the Turkmen state steadily running along the way of peace, creation and progress of the country which had achieved outstanding accomplishments.

Among the delegates to the forum were the elders, the heads and deputies of the Mejlis, cabinet ministers, khyakims of velayats, towns and etraps, specialists of various sectors of the national economy, cultural and art workers, Turkmen diplomats, representatives of the public organisations. Representatives of diplomatic missions and representative offices accredited to our country, the authoritative international organisations, Turkmen and foreign news agencies had been invited to participate in the forum.

The forum participants greeted President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with a storm of applause.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov headed to the stage of the Ruhyet Palace, cordially greeted the delegates and guests to the forum and announced the Elders’ Council meeting open.

The National Anthem of Turkmenistan was performed.

The general committee members sat on the panel.

To the applause of those present President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the documents submitted to the Elders’ Council for consideration.

Then the President of Turkmenistan addressed the forum with a keynote speech. The Turkmen leader’s speech was welcomed with great enthusiasm and interrupted several times by the storm of applause

Addressing the forum, the President proposed to discuss the agenda issues and gave the floor to meeting participants.

Then the ceremony of awarding the government awards to citizens of our country and foreign citizens took place.

The Chairperson of the Mejlis read out the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan.

In a solemn atmosphere the Turkmen leader awarded Turkmen citizens for their conscientious work for the benefit of the beloved Motherland. The title of “The Honorary Elder of Turkmenistan” was awarded to fifteen citizens of our country.

Noting that the important issues had been considered during the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov presented the draft Address of the Elders’ Council members to the Turkmen people for their consideration.

These documents were approved unanimously.

Informing those present that the Elders’ Council would hold a next meeting in Dashoguz Velayat in 2013, the Turkmen leader signed the Decree “On convocation of the Elders’ Council of Turkmenistan and noted that the date of the next meeting would be specified later.

Announcing the forum closed, Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed sincere gratitude to those present for taking an active part in the forum.

That day the President of Turkmenistan left Turkmenbashi for Ashgabat.
