The meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers took place in Ashgabat. The meeting became the final stage of the preparations for the CIS Council of the Heads of States held in Ashgabat on December 5.
The heads of the foreign-policy agencies of the CIS member states – the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and Ukraine arrived in Ashgabat to take part in the meeting. Chairman, CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev led the delegation of the CIS Executive Committee.
The agenda of the meeting taken place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan focused on more than ten documents aimed at enhancing cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, safeguarding, environmental protection and other areas.
The draft of the Declaration on further development of the comprehensive cooperation in the CIS was considered during the meeting. A number of agreements on the concept of further development of the Commonwealth and the plan of action on its implementation were coordinated and the plan of consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the CIS member states for 2013 was approved. The issues on implementation of the Intergovernmental programme “The CIS cultural capitals” and the Plan of priority events in the sphere of humanitarian cooperation of the CIS member states for 2013-2014.
Moreover, it was reported on the work of the CIS Council of the Heads of State and Public Television and Radio Companies. The year of 2013 was announced the year of the ecological culture and environmental protection. It was initiated the reestablishment of the CIS Interstate Ecological Council.
The practical issues of the multilateral cooperation in the sphere of security and control of terrorism were discussed within the framework of the meeting. The drafts of the Agreement between the CIS member states on cooperation of competent authorities fighting terrorism and extremism as well as the Agreement on cooperation for training specialists of antiterrorist subdivisions in training institutions of competent authorities of the CIS member states were approved.
The special decision on the preparations for the celebrations on occasion of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War was adopted. Among the events stipulated by the decision are the preparations of the national programmes of celebrations in the CIS member states and development of the general plan of the main events on preparations and celebrations of the 70th anniversary by the CIS Councils of the Heads of Governments.
A number of documents aimed at offering a powerful incentive to the integration processes at the CIS space were signed during the meeting in Ashgabat.
A press conference with participation of the representatives of the national and foreign media took place after the ceremony of signing the documents. The specific decisions on development of cooperation in various spheres adopted during the meeting were announced.
