President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Mr. Taleb D. Rifai.
Speaking about the goal of his visit Mr. Taleb D. Rifai said he had arrived in Turkmenistan to familiarize with the potential of the rapidly developing tourist industry of the country and prospects of its development given the projects and programmes in this sphere presented during the World Travel Market International Tourism Exhibition in London.
Cordially greeting the guest, the Turkmen leader underlined the readiness of Turkmenistan to strengthen and intensify the traditional partnership with international organisations and UN agencies, including the UNWTO specializing in the sphere of tourism.
Highly appreciating the Turkmen leader’s contribution to development of the tourist industry and supporting the national strategy for developing tourism, the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization invited President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to join the UNWTO/World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Leaders for Tourism Campaign and handed over the Open Letter to Heads of State and Government to the Turkmen leader.

A discussion of the issues of bilateral cooperation and an exchange of views on the prospects of further development and possible ways for diversification of the traditional partnership with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) took place during the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
