A meeting of the State Security Council of Turkmenistan

President of Turkmenistan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces General of the Army Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a meeting of the State Sectary Council. The meeting agenda focused on the work done by the military and law enforcement agencies in January 2013 and a number of important issues regarding the further improvement of work.

According to the State News Agency of Turkmenistan, within the framework of the meeting the heads of security, defence and law enforcement agencies reported on the existing situation in the sectors under their supervision and fulfillment of the Turkmen leader’s instructions.

In particular, it was reported on the progress in implementing the large-scale military reform carried out by the Ministry of National Security with the aim to maintain the social stability, unity and consent.

It was also reported on the work done to ensure the safety and inviolability of the State Border, and the work of the public prosecution bodies.

The Turkmen leader was informed on the progress of work done by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan within January, 2013 and the measures taken to ensure social stability in the country and prevent any offense.

The Chairman of the Supreme Court reported on the measures taken to improve the judicial system of the country in compliance with the generally-recognised international standards as well as to develop and strengthen the national legislative basis.

The Chairman of the State Customs Service reported on the work carried out jointly with the law enforcement agencies and healthcare institutions to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs.

Commenting on the reports, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed satisfaction with the work done by security, defence and law enforcement agencies and focused once again on the need to fulfil the tasks and take an integrated approach to promoting the reforms within the framework of the Military Doctrine of Turkmenistan, which is purely defensive in nature.

Underlining that the technical modernization of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan as well as concern about the future of military personnel are specified among the key tasks set to the heads of military and law enforcement agencies, the President of Turkmenistan noted that particular attention would be paid to strengthening the material and technical base of the national army and creating all necessary conditions for its specialists and their families. Summing up the meeting, the Turkmen leader demanded those present to pay significant attention to the educational work among the personnel, increase the professional level of the specialists of the military and law enforcement agencies of Turkmenistan and their responsibility for the spheres under their supervision.

The other issues were considered during the State Security Council meeting, and the relevant decisions were adopted.
