President of Turkmenistan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces General of the Army Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a regular meeting of the State Security Council. The meeting agenda focused on the work done by the military and law enforcement agencies in the first two months of the current year and some aspects of the military reform launched by the Turkmen leader.
The members of the State Security Council reported to the Turkmen leader on the current situation in the agencies under their supervision and the fulfilment of the instructions. Commenting on the reports, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highly evaluated coordinated work of the military and law enforcement agencies that stood guard over national interests and emphasized that an atmosphere of social cohesion directly contribute to the advancement of the Turkmen people united by the aspiration for the lofty aims and goals of the new epoch.
Focusing on the priority objectives of the ongoing successful military reform, the President said the Turkmen people had always adhered to high principles of humanism as evidenced by the consistent implementation of the peaceful foreign policy of Turkmenistan and the Military Doctrine that was purely defensive in nature. The important tasks set to the Ministry of Defence included the enhancement of staff discipline, professional development of military servants and education of the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism and adherence to the solemn military duty.
Emphasizing the awesome responsibility of border guards who like a shield protected the sacred borders of our sovereign state, the Turkmen leader focused on the need to create the most favourable conditions for their service and life, including the construction and equipment of the buildings of frontier posts in line with modern requirements.
Emphasizing the importance of raising the professionalism of prosecutor’s office staffs, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that they must be composed of only diligent and honest people devoted to their profession. In this regard, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief focused on the importance of taking a responsible approach to the work aimed at establishing the rule of law in the country.
Emphasizing the urgency of the tasks set to the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the context of national development priorities, the Turkmen leader focused on such as important issues as selection and placement of personnel. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said the success of the measures for preventing crime and optimizing the multifaceted activities of the offices of internal affairs depended largely on the personal qualities of high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Turkmen leader said Turkmenistan, being a jural state where the rule of law is regarded as of paramount importance, would continue to wage an uncompromised struggle against violators of law and apply adequate measures of restriction to them. The President focused on the need for a thorough study of best international legislative practices and the importance of adopting them when drafting legal acts.
The Turkmen leader stressed that Turkmenistan would continue to wage the fierce and uncompromising struggle against traffic in narcotic drugs that posed a serious threat the health of the Turkmen nation as well as all mankind. In this regard, the Turkmen leader focused on the need to conduct systematic and comprehensive activities jointly with law enforcement agencies, health institutions, public organisations, the Mejlis and the elders among the population, particularly youth, to raise their awareness of the harm caused by narcotic drugs to the heath and welfare of people.
Noting that particular attention should be paid to training qualified customs officers and creation of the favourable conditions of their work and life, the Turkmen leader gave specific instructions to the high-ranking officials of the Customs Service, particularly on a more thorough examination of goods, including transit goods.
