President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. The draft documents and state policy issues were considered during the meeting, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) reported.

Before opening the meeting, the President heartily congratulated women of Turkmenistan on upcoming International Women’s Day. The Turkmen leader said that wonderful holiday was an evidence of profound respect for our beloved mothers who rejoiced at a happy life of their children and our beautiful women.

Then the floor was given to the Vice Premiers who informed the President on the progress in modernization of the regulatory framework and the decisions of the eighteenth session of the Mejlis on the adoption of a number of new legal acts. The information on the preparations for the International Women’s Day celebrations was presented. It was noted that the festivities in honour of women were taking place in the capital and the regions of the country these days.

The reports on the implementation of the foreign policy, activities of MFA and preparations for the international events dedicated to the Spring Holiday Nowruz which would take place this month were presented. It was reported in the context of the implementation of the Concept of the Foreign Policy of Turkmenistan for 2013-2017 that the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Malaysia and the Consulate of Turkmenistan in the Federal Republic of Germany (Frankfurt am Main) had opened.

The information on the current situation in the management sector and the textile industry, measures taken to improve the trade and services sectors and preparations for the exhibition and conference to mark the 5th anniversary of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan which would be held at the Sergi Kosgi Exhibition Centre on March 17-18 was presented.

The reports on the current situation in the agricultural sector spotlighted the preparedness of farmers associations throughout the country for the cotton campaign. It was noted that they had been provided with quality seeds and agricultural machines and equipment. Other agricultural activities were in full swing in all the regions. Also, the information on the preparations for the tree planting action ‘yovar’ scheduled for March 9 was presented.

The reports on the progress in implementing the ambitious investment projects, the Programme for the development of the oil and gas, chemical and fishing industries for 2012-2016, the large-scale urban development programme and the work done in the construction, energy, industrial, transport system and communication sectors were presented.

The information on the preparations for the International Conference “Manuscripts as the Original Source of National Heritage Studies” which would take place in Ashgabat on March 13-14 was presented. The forum, which will be held during the days of the 20th anniversary of the National Institute of Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, has aroused keen interest. Prominent scientists and representatives of the major research and educational centres from foreign countries will take part in five conference sections.

The issues of international cooperation in the fuel and energy sector were spotlighted; the information on the progress in the exploration of hydrocarbon deposits in the Turkmen sector and offshore areas of the Caspian Sea and the comprehensive measures taken to increase oil and gas production in this region was presented.

During the meeting the President issued a number of documents, including the Resolution on the appointment of the founders of newspapers and magazines published in Turkmenistan aimed at improvement of the printed periodicals and re-registration of the editorial boards, the Decree on the Opening of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) and the Resolution on the Opening of the Consulate of Turkmenistan in the Federal Republic of Germany (Frankfort-on-Main). The President issued the Order on the provision of humanitarian assistance of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Signing the Resolution on Financial Assistance to Agricultural Producers in Turkmenistan, the Turkmen leader noted that the provision of soft loans would facilitate the adoption of advanced management methods and water saving technologies in the agro-industrial sector and eventually increase land productivity and agricultural output.

Giving his blessing to the cotton campaign in Ahal, Balkan, Lebap and Mary Veleyat on March 23 and in Dashoguz on 27 March, the President expressed the hope that according to the good tradition this important campaign would start with the participation of the elders. The President gave specific instructions to hold ‘yovar’ in the outskirts of Ashgabat and the regions.

Signing the Resolution on the Construction and Purchase of River-Sea Tankers, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the Turkmenbashi sea port was enhancing its position as an international water transport centre.

Other issues were considered during the government meeting and the decisions were adopted.
