The tree planting programme has been launched in Turkmenistan at the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The programme envisages that green belts will be created around towns and villages throughout the country. Nearly all the population of Turkmenistan is involved in the implementation of this programme to ensure the favourable conditions of life and recreation.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov planted a young tree at the picturesque foothills of the Kopetdag in the territory of Chandybil Etrap in the southern part of the capital. The President of Turkmenistan emphasized the profound importance of the tree planting programme during the March 6 government meeting.
The cabinet ministers, the high-ranking officials of the Mejlis, military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, public organisations, the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan and the representatives of foreign companies participated in the action.
From times immemorial, the Turkmen people have dreamed of turning their land into a blooming garden. From ancient times, people have been creating blooming oases, trying to put their dream into reality. In the present epoch the centuries-old dream of the Turkmen people is taking real shape thanks to the tree planting programme implemented by the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
This is a specific feature of the national mentality. In Turkmenistan, he who has planted a tree enjoys respect. Going by the garden, people always have a kind word to say about he who had grown it. Therefore, the Turkmen leader's idea to create manmade forests has met with the nationwide support.
Manmade forests grow and expand as a result of the massive tree planting campaigns held every year. They are the results of selfless work of our people. Groves that stretch in the vicinity of Ashgabat - from Anau to Geoktepe - and in other regions of the country gladden the eye. Dense pistachio groves cover the foothills of the Kopetdag and juniper woodlands adorn the highlands. Manmade 'green belts' create a special microclimate, turning Turkmenistan into a blooming garden.
The large-scale action - the festival of the sincere filial love for the land that has reared the Turkmen people - has launched throughout the country. 465,000 Turkmen citizens took a part in tree planting activities on that day. Action participants planted 775,000 young coniferous and other trees and took care of over 1.578 million trees planted earlier.
Harmonized development of society and environment, nature protection and biodiversity conservation are the main objectives of the ongoing environmental programme in Turkmenistan. It takes consistent steps to implement the commitments undertaken under the international environmental conventions.
Consistent measures to create new woodlands and take care of existing continuing across the country.
