President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation.
During the conversation President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon underlined the constructive nature of the intergovernmental political dialogue, emphasizing good prospects for building up trade and economic partnership and stepping up cooperation in the energy, transport and communications sectors given the geographical location and the transit transport potential of both Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. Focusing on the critical role of the humanitarian and cultural sphere in fostering bilateral relations, the two leaders called for enhancement of fruitful contacts in the sphere, including the spring festival of Nowruz bairamy. In this regard, the leaders of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan expressed hope for a meeting during Nowruz celebrations in Ashgabat .
In this context, the sides discussed the issues relating to the provision of assistance to neighbouring Afghanistan, emphasizing that the Turkmen and Tajik peoples supported the Afghan people in their aspiration for a peaceful and prosperous life. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan paid particular attention to Tajikistan's initiatives to build and connect rail networks of the two countries in the territory of Afghanistan. The project will contribute to the diversification of transport corridors of both Turkmenistan and Tajikistan and the implementation of the potential of transport cooperation, including in the context of Turkmenistan's initiatives to promote interregional relations and employ in full the transport potential of the Central Asian, Caspian and Black Sea regions .
Upon concluding the conversation, the sides expressed belief that Turkmen-Tajik cooperation based the indissoluble ties of friendship and mutual good will would further develop and be filled with new content.
