The history of the Turkmen people is closely interrelated with the history of other nations, active political, trade and cultural cooperation with whom has added many pages and events to the chronicle of the Turkmen nation. A striking illustration of close relationships between peoples of Turkmenistan and Armenia are the historical monuments located in the territory of Armenia, in particular the mausoleum of Turkmen emirs of Garagoyunly tribe located in Argavand village near Yerevan. The legend in the upper part of the twelve-metre structure under the eaves of the dome says that the mausoleum was built in 1413 by Pir Husein emir.
It should be noted in this context that during the official visit to the Republic of Armenia in November 2012 the President of Turkmenistan visited the historical complex of Turkmen emirs where he learnt about restoration work carried out in recent years to preserve the remarkable monument.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov suggested that Turkmen and Armenian scientists combine efforts under the joint project to restore the monument and reconstruct its dome. The Turkmen leader's initiative was supported by Turkmen historians and their Armenian counterparts. Today, preparatory work has been launched and consultations and negotiations are being conducted. The results of joint work will be submitted to the Academic Council of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia for endorsement.
It is planned to send a group of experts of the National Department for the Protection, Study and Restoration of Historical and Cultural Monuments of Turkmenistan to Armenia where they will define the scope of activities and discuss in detail the issues relating to the restoration of the dome of the mausoleum of Pir Husein.
