President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Turkey Abdullah Gul discussed the current state and prospects of an interstate dialogue during a telephone conversation.

During the conversation that took place at the initiative of the Turkish side, the two leaders highly evaluated the constructive Turkmen-Turkish dialogue based on a firm foundation of age-old historical, cultural and spiritual affinities of the two nations and emphasized their interest in giving it a powerful impetus to develop.

The sides noted that trade and economic cooperation that both countries attached paramount importance to was quite illustrative in this regard. Best evidence of it was business forums, exhibitions and business meetings held at various levels and on a regular basis, the Investment Forum of Turkmenistan in Istanbul and the commodities exhibition of Turkey in Ashgabat that had been evaluated highly by the two leaders. The cultural and humanitarian sphere was an important area of Turkmen-Turkish relations promoted actively by the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), whose 20th anniversary had been celebrated widely in the two countries recently.

Focusing on cooperation between Turkmenistan and Turkey on a multilateral basis, particularly within the major international organisations and regional structures, the sides focused once again on the importance of elaborating a common coherent approach to addressing global issues of modern times.

Emphasizing the importance that Turkmenistan attached to consistent promotion of relations of friendship and brotherhood with our neighbours in the region, the Turkmen leader said he would be glad to see a Turkish delegation among the guests to the celebrations of International Day of Nowruz - the wonderful spring festival that united the nations bound by spiritual and historical affinities.
