Turkmenistan-Iran: new impact of mutually beneficial cooperation

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a meeting with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who had arrived in Turkmenistan with a working visit and participated in the celebrations in honour of the International Day of Nowruz.

During the meeting held in the atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, and, at the same time, in a business way, the leaders of the two states highly appreciated the level of the interstate relations that gained new content in recent years. That is vividly proved by fostering business contacts and widening traditional humanitarian relations. The sides discussed the progress of implementation of the intergovernmental agreements and exchanged their views on the prospects of further cooperation in its priority areas.

The trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian relations as well as implementation of mutually beneficial large-scale projects in various areas were specified among the key aspects and prospect trends of the Turkmen-Iranian cooperation.

The leaders of the two states discussed the issues of the regional and international policy that are of particular interest for our countries.

The work of the joint Interstate Turkmen-Iranian commission for economic cooperation is aimed at promoting the further dynamic development of the partnership in specific areas. In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underlined the significance of the project on construction of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway that would contribute developing diversified transportation infrastructure.

In conclusion of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad expressed mutual interest in the large-scale interstate dialogue based on the political will and huge resource and economic potential of Turkmenistan and Iran.
