President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a working trip to Dashoguz Velayat where he participated in the ceremony of planting a forest tract.

A new forest tract is an illustrative example of the ongoing large-scale work in this field. The manmade forest covers 55 hectares of the territory adjacent to the administrative centre of Dashoguz Velayat. The Turkmen leader said that the locality chosen for the park area bordered on the construction site of a mosque from one side and the adjacent territory of a boarding school from the other highlighted the symbolicalness of the place harmoniously combining a dwelling of Almighty and a hearth of knowledge.

After planting a young redwood, the Turkmen leader talked to the ceremony participants who represented each region of our country and Ashgabat and gave start to their participation in the planting action. Following the first sapling, another six young redwoods were planted, symbolizing a contribution of each region and the capital of our country to the future forest park.

Then all those present took up the Turkmen leader’s initiative and planted their trees.

The Turkmen leader talked to the Chairman of the Council for Religion and the Mufti of Turkmenistan after the planting action. During the conversation the President touched upon the important themes, such as spiritual and moral education of youth, continuity and promotion of the age-old traditions of the respect for the native land and nature.

Then the Turkmen leader took part in a sadaqah arranged in honour of the planting of a new forest tract in Dashoguz Velayat.

Before the ritual meal the President delivered a brief speech. Comparing the pace of development of sovereign Turkmenistan with the swiftness of a fast horse and emphasizing the progress in all the spheres of life of the state and society, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said the implementation of the environmental policy was an important aspect of the ongoing ambitious reforms in our country.

The Turkmen leader said a first-priority task nowadays was to address environmental problems worldwide. Our Government allocated substantial funds and took complex measures and steps for this purpose. So, the National Forest Programme that clearly formulates the plan of actions, including the planting of forest shelter belts, parks and gardens was adopted in January. Millions of young trees are planted throughout the country in the framework of the programme.

In accordance with the plan of actions, sapling desert plants, such as calligonum, saxaul, ojar, saltwort, poplar, deciduous trees, etc., are to be planted in an area of 20,000 hectares in Botendag valley that are expected to grow into a vast forest shelter belt by 2020.

Our ancestors considered the construction of roads and bridges and planting of trees and shrubs a virtuous action. “Today we have continued the noble tradition of our forefathers,” the President said, noting that the action was symbolic for that it had taken place in a holy place, in the neighbourhood of a newly built mosque. Saplings of seven rare tree species, including a redwood tree that lives 3,500 years, were chosen for a new park area. Summing up the work done, the President said a total of 22,000 saplings had been planted in the 55-hectare area in the framework of the planting action. The Turkmen leader noted that the creation of a large forest tract would give a new impetus to the ongoing work on beautification of the northern region and turn it into a blooming garden.

In this context, the Turkmen leader focused on the fruitful work of the Conference “Ecology of the Aral Sea: Sustainable Development and International Cooperation” that had taken place in Dashoguz this week. The expert meeting that brought together representatives of many international organisations and scientists from dozens of countries had testified to great attention that our country paid to environmental issues. “We intend to continue this important work,” the President said.

Addressing the elders who were present at the sadaqah, the Turkmen leader said the Elders’ Council would hold its regular meeting in Dashoguz this year and its agenda would focus on a number of important aspects of life of the state and society.

In his speech President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also touched upon the heritage sites located in Dashoguz Velayat where the unique historical and cultural monuments had been preserved. These include the shrines, such as the architectural complex of Ancient Kunya Urgench inscribed in the World Heritage List, Najmuddin Kubra Mausoleum and the tomb of 360 pirs where the elders who had participated in the planting action would make a pilgrimage.

Wishing the elders the successful performance of the rite, the President said: “May God accept your pilgrimage and your prayers for the welfare and prosperity of our motherland!”
