President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received a deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, member of the Presidential Council for Physical Culture and Sports of the Russian Federation Irina Rodnina who had arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the festivities on occasion of the World Health Day.
Thanking the Turkmen leader for the opportunity of a personal meeting, the guest noted that she was happy to visit Turkmenistan once again and express her admiration with the grandiose changes taken place in the country within the last years, including the large-scale work on popularization of sports and health life style.
Cordially greeting the famous sportswoman who has become a legend of the world figure skating, the President of Turkmenistan thanked the guest for accepting an invitation to participate in the festivities taken place in the country on occasion of the World Health Day that was widely celebrated in our country during the Week of Health and Happiness.
During the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underlined that following the course for development and promotion of sport and mass health-improving movement, Turkmenistan had carried out the successive comprehensive work all these years – the existing national legislation in this sphere is steadily improved, the National programme to support and develop physical culture and sport in Turkmenistan for 2011-2020 was adopted and is successfully implemented, the programme envisages training of sportsmen for world contests, construction of modern sports and health inmprovement complexes, multifunctional stadiums, hippodromes, motodromes, specialized sports institutions, facilities for various sports events and other important sports objects in all regions of the country.
The Turkmen leader noted that construction of a largest in the region Olympic Village that would host the V Asian Indoor and Martial Art Games in 2017 had been launched in Ashgabat. It was also noted that Turkmenistan was the first country in the Central Asian region to host such a large sports event that drew a wide response in the world and had another solid evidence of the adherence to the selected course opening new large-scale prospects before Turkmen sportsmen.
“Construction of ice palaces in your sunny region and an active work on promotion of winter sports arouse admiration and big respect as well as demonstrate particular and farsighted attitude of your state to development of sports”, said the famous Olympic champion. According to the world-known figure skater, the sports events to be held in two countries, including 2017 Asian Games, World Students Games in Kazan, Olympic Games in Sochi would offer a powerful incentive for training sportsmen.
