Turkmenistan widely and solemnly celebrated World Health Day as a national holiday together with the international community on April 7. The Week of Health and Happiness was held at the initiative of the Turkmen leader two years in a row to mark this remarkable date.

The cabinet ministers, the heads of the Mejlis, law enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, public organisations and diplomatic missions and representative offices accredited to our country gathered together in a picturesque locality at the foothills of Gindivar early in the morning. Students of higher educational institutions, vocational schools and sports schools and representatives of labour collectives and public organisations dressed in colourful sports suits stood in line near the 8-kilometer section of the Path of Health.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived at the venue where the Path of Health began. Numerous healthy lifestyles followers, who had gathered there, cordially greeted the leader of Turkmenistan and heartily congratulated him on World Health Day.

The President of Turkmenistan announced the festive sporting action dedicated to World Health Day open. Then the Turkmen leader and his associates joined participants of the festive sports parade.

While walking along the Path of Health, the Turkmen leader examined the current state of the Path of Health and adjacent territory and focused on the need to create green spaces in that area.

A team of Turkmen mountain climbers, having hoisted the state flag of Turkmenistan at the highest point of the Path of Health, contributed to the celebrations. The ceremony of awarding the winners took place after the sporting action had finished.

The President warmly congratulated and presented the prizes to the winners of the sporting action who had ascended the Path of Health. The Turkmen leader wished them to continue doing sports, improving their health and gaining new achievements.

In the afternoon the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the winter sports complex where figure skaters presented exhibition performances.

A fascinating show took place in the ice arena. The 10,000-seat stands of the winter sports complex crowded with spectators quietened down for a moment when the announcer was inviting a legendary figure skater Irina Rodnina who together with young sportsmen danced in the ice arena to the storm of applause.

The audience greeted by cheers the figure skaters from the Netherlands and Turkey, who had arrived in Ashgabat on the invitation to Ashgabat to share the joy of the holiday with Turkmen citizens.

... When looking at our youth performing complicated pirouettes on the 'young' ice of Ashgabat, we can be confident that in the near future our compatriots will represent independent Turkmenistan in the international competitions, including the Winter Olympic Games.
