Turkmenistan widely celebrated the national holiday – the Turkmen Horse Day.
The main festivities on occasion of the national holiday brought together thousands people of Turkmenistan, numerous guests and foreign delegations at the International Equestrian Sports Complex in the picturesque Kopetdag foothills.
The cabinet ministers, heads of the National Parliament, military and law-enforcement agencies, heads of the diplomatic representatives and missions accredited in our country, khyakims of Ashgabat and velayats, representatives of public organisations, journalists, the elders, participants of the III meeting of the International Ahalteke Horse Breeding Association, the International Trade Fair, delegates of the V International Conference “Turkmen Horses and the World Art of Horse Breeding gathered together at the International Equestrian Sports Complex to take part in the festivities.
Under the storm of applause President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov headed to the Presidential lounge.
The culmination of the festive events on occasion of the Turkmen Horse Day was the horse racing competitions.
The jockeys who belong to elder generations (over 30 years old) took part in the competitions first.
The referee's board selected seven three-year old horses to run the 1,000-meter distance. Those wishing their horses to take part in the racing paid contribution for them.
The horses, their breeders, coaches and jockeys were presented to the spectators. The prize fund for the horse racing made up 13 million US dollars. 85 percent of the sum was established for the first place, 10 percent – for the second place and five percent – for the third one.
According to the referee's board, the President of Turkmenistan expressed the willingness to take part in the horse racing tournament riding Berkarar horse bred at the Ahalteke Equestrian Complex. Under the storm of applause, the jury announced the Turkmen leader riding golden-yellow Berkarar among participants of the tournament.
…The spectators’ attention was riveted on a ‘golden’ arrow – Berkarar ridden by the Turkmen leader. The President’s horse made a steady spurt to the victory and reached the finish first!
… The audience greeted President Gurbenguly Berdimuhamedov, who finished first demonstrating great skills of horse riding, the will to win, firmness and courage, with a storm of applause.
Akbilek ranked the second and Gadyr was took the third place.
Upon completion of the horse racing tournament, the President of Turkmenistan answered journalists’ questions. The Turkmen leader noted that the prize would be used for further improve of the horse breeding industry of Turkmenistan, increase the population of Ahalteke horses in the country and enhance of the material and technical base of this sphere. That is the funds will be transferred to the Turkmen Atlary State Association.
