President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification Luc Gnacadja, who had arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit.
Within the framework of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his guest exchanged views on the progress in implementing joint projects and programmes to combat desertification, on the prospects of holding international conferences and discussed the issues of land improvement and water preservation system in the country.
Underlining the significance of large-scale national and regional projects, in particular construction of the Turkmen Lake in the centre of the Karakum Desert, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification expressed gratitude to the President for his leading position in the struggle against desertification. The distinguished guest noted that purposeful work in this sphere served as an important factor for sustainable development, and rich experience of our country would give the lead to the states with such a problem.
