The Days of Culture of Turkmenistan finished in the United States. This cultural action aroused keen interests among many people and turned into a festival of friendship, creativity and inspiration. The Days of Culture of Turkmenistan were organized in the capital of the United States of America to mark the remarkable event in the history of interstate cooperation – the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the United States of America. This action is a new illustration of strategic partnership between the two countries, mutual confidence and mutual understanding and the mutual willingness to know culture and life of each other better.

In addition to the creative part of the action that includes concerts and exhibitions, the program of the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan envisaged business meetings and consultations. Thus, yesterday, the members of the Turkmen delegation were received at the United States Department of State. A focus of the meeting was the issues of enhancing humanitarian dialogue in the context of the multi-faceted bilateral cooperation.

It was noted that the policy pursued by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the sphere of conservation and development of cultural values offered a powerful incentive to bringing the national culture up to the new level and asserting the modern image of the country and Turkmen people in the world space. In this context, it was underlined the significance of this large-scale campaign, the main purpose of which is to present the rich historical and national heritage of the Turkmen people and modern art of Turkmenistan to the people in the United States.

Highly appreciating the high level of the intergovernmental relations that have received a new content within last years, the participants called for further strengthening of the Turkmen-American partnership and, in particular, in the sphere of development of museum and librarian science. The prospects on participation of American scientists in projects on preservation, study and restoration of historical and cultural monuments of Turkmenistan were discussed during the meetings.

That day, in the evening an official reception took place in the Meridian International Centre to mark the opening of the decorative and applied arts exhibition. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave the welcome address to participants of the celebrations in honour of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the United States of America.

According to the Turkmen leader Turkmenistan, which appeared on the world map as an independent state twenty years ago is now widely known due to its brilliant victories in the economic, spiritual and cultural life not only in Central Asia, but all over the world as well. The Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in the United States as well as the Days of the American Culture in Turkmenistan scheduled for 2012 testify to dynamic development of bilateral cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Within the framework of the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in the United States a meeting of Turkmen workers of culture and arts with their American counterparts took place at one of the largest institutions in the United States – the University of Maryland in Washington.

The hosts cordially welcomed the guests that created a warm and friendly atmosphere favourable for conversation. American students demonstrated keen interest in the cultural life of Turkmenistan, the system of education in artistic universities in Turkmenistan, national traditions associated with music, dance, fine arts, architecture and theatre. The members of the Turkmen delegation told that art and culture in our country had got a second wind in recent years. National opera has been revived in the country, symphonic music and circus arts have received a new incentive to develop today. Magnificent buildings of museums, theatres, libraries, children’s art schools have been built and opened in big cities.

Turkmenistan has become the recognized centre to host international music, folk and theatre festivals, exhibitions, scientific conferences on literary and spiritual heritage, which involve the envoys of the United States.

The Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in the United States will rank among various international events as a symbol of a new stage of humanitarian Turkmen-American dialogue. Students of the University of Maryland said the Days of Days of Culture of Turkmenistan were a great opportunity for the Americans to learn more about modern Turkmenistan and its people. Events of this kind strengthen friendship and mutual understanding, and our cultural differences have become a factor for mutual attraction and interest.

The final chord of the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in the United States was a concert performed by Turkmen artists, including the Serdar serpay folk and ethnic group and other well-known dance groups, folk musicians and singers, opera and pop singers of Turkmenistan. Enchanting national melodies, the rhythms of Turkmen dances touched the American audiences that highly appreciated the talent of Turkmen artists. The members of the Turkmen delegation made friends with students and teachers of the University of Maryland.

At the conclusion of the meeting participants of the cultural event expressed sincere gratitude to the members of the Turkmen delegation for an unforgettable concert and an opportunity to learn more about the rich culture of Turkmenistan, discover its original world and unique colours.

The members of the Turkmen delegation had a meeting with the head of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute at John Hopkins University, Professor, Doctor of Political Sciences Stephen S. Frederick Starr. The prospects for strengthening humanitarian cooperation between our countries were discussed during the meeting. The representatives of the Turkmen delegation briefed Mr. F. Starr on the results of the national programmes of reforms taking place in Turkmenistan, including in the cultural sphere, under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Highly evaluating the policy pursued by the leader of the Turkmen state, in particular the constructive peace-building initiatives, Professor Frederick Starr noted that the United States showed keen interest in active collaboration in joint humanitarian projects which would promote bilateral cooperation.

During the visit to the United States the members of the Turkmen delegation visited the largest museums in Washington, including the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of American History of the Smithsonian Institution and the Kennedy Cultural Centre, historical and architectural landmarks of Washington.

The Days of Turkmen Culture in the United States presented many wonderful impressions and provided the American people with an opportunity to discover the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Turkmen people, discover the unique world and colours of the national art. The Days of Culture of Turkmenistan became not only a memorable event for American audiences, but also another step towards the spiritual harmonization, mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations, and especially among the younger generation. This cultural event will certainly be a new incentive to enhance Turkmen-American cultural cooperation.
