Geoeconomic potential of Turkmenistan and Latvia – in the interests of mutually beneficial partnership

Negotiations were held in the Turkmen capital between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Republic of Latvia Andris Berzinysh, who arrived in Turkmenistan on an official visit.

After official part and traditional ceremony of official photographing in front of the State Flags of Turkmenistan and Republic of Latvia, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited his Latvian colleague to “Gold hall”, where tête-à-tête negotiations were held.

The heads of two countries declared about their support of the efforts of the world community on struggle against terrorism, transnational crime, illegal drug and psychotropic agent trafficking, and confirmed the readiness for development of cooperation in struggle against these challenges and threats of the present both in bilateral format and within the framework of the international organizations and conferences. The parties underlined the necessity to search new prospective ways of interaction of two countries.

Further, the enlarged negotiations have been continued in “Gorkut ata” hall with participation of the members of the governmental delegations of Turkmenistan and Republic of Latvia.

Welcoming the organization of joint Turkmen- Latvian business forum opened today in Ashgabat, the head of Turkmen state underlined that aforementioned trends can be the subject of discussion between the officials and representatives of the state authorities and economic structures of two countries. Further, the President of Turkmenistan informed that tomorrow, the high guests will be able to visit the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, where it will be possible to exchange views and consider concrete proposals of interaction in practical space on development of harbor industry and shipping infrastructure.

In conclusion of his speech, having expressed gratitude to the Latvian party for respect for our country and sincere interest in cooperation, the President of Turkmenistan wished his Latvian colleague sound health and successes in responsible state activity, people of Latvia – happiness, welfare and prosperity.

In his statement during negotiations, President of Republic of Latvia Andris Berzinysh thanked the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for invitation to pay official visit to Turkmenistan as well as for cordial welcome and hospitality. As the Latvian leader underlined, Latvia attaches particular significance to this visit urged to contribute to further development of bilateral relations, which have become more active in the last years. In this connection, the President of Latvia noted that on February 5, 2013, it was the 20th anniversary since establishment of diplomatic relations between two countries. Having emphasized the contribution of Turkmenistan to the economic development of Afghanistan, the head of Republic of Latvia declared that Latvia is ready to make its contribution to the international cooperation on stabilization of situation in Afghanistan.

Touching upon the issues of delivery of energy bearers to the world markets, the high guest spoke for creation of multiple-choice pipeline infrastructures, which will be directed to the maintenance of energy security at the regional and global scales. “It is particularly important for Latvia and European Union, which is also the energy consumer”, - said President Andris Berzinysh, having assured that in the period of presidency of Latvia in the European Council in the first half of 2015, deepening of relations between European Union and Central Asian countries will be one of the foreign-policy priorities.

Having dwelled on the topic of trade-economic cooperation, President Andris Berzinysh underlined the interest of Latvia in expansion of the partnership with Turkmenistan in this trend. There is a solid potential for it. Interaction in the industrial sector and modernization of production infrastructure was ranked among prospective trend of efficient bilateral partnership. In particular, the President of Latvia emphasized the textile industry, construction, information technologies, resort infrastructure, tourism, food industry as well as agriculture as spheres of mutual interest. In this connection, the head of Latvia invited the Turkmen party to take part in the seminar devoted to the issues of realization of construction projects of transport corridors, linking Asia with other world.

Touching upon other issues of development of humanitarian cooperation, President Andris Berzinysh spoke for establishment of wide exchange in the sphere of education. In opinion of the head of Latvia, good prospects for mutually beneficial composition of efforts are opened in training of students on the specialties of transport, study of sciences on sea, banking sphere, finances, technical sciences, medicine, aviation and other fields, elaboration of special programs of training of school-leavers to study at the Latvian higher educational establishments.

Having touched upon topic of traditional cooperation in the sphere of culture, President Andris Berzinysh noted that in 2014, Riga will become the cultural capital of Europe. In this connection, the Latvian leader invited Turkmenistan for participation in the events timed to this significant event.

Completing his speech, having underlined again the efficiency of the current high-level meeting, the President of Republic of Latvia expressed sincere gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, having addressed to the Turkmen leader and all people of Turkmenistan his best wishes.

Upon completion of the enlarged governmental negotiations in “Seljuk khan” hall, the signing ceremony of bilateral documents was held in presence of the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Republic of Latvia.

It is signed the Agreement on cooperation between Turkmenbashi city municipality (Turkmenistan) and Duma of Yurmala (Republic of Latvia), Agreement between Government of Turkmenistan and Government of Republic of Latvia on cooperation in the field of education, Agreement between Government of Turkmenistan and Government of Republic of Latvia on cooperation in struggle against terrorism, organized crime, illegal drug and psychotropic agent trafficking and other kinds of crimes.

Under applauses of the participants, the President of Turkmenistan and President of Republic of Latvia put their signatures to Joint Declaration.

completion of the signing ceremony of documents, the Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Andris Berzinysh directed their steps to “Bairam khan” hall, where they issue a brief appeal to the representatives of mass media.

Then, President of Republic of Latvia Andris Berzinysh took part in the closing ceremony of the Turkmen-Latvian business forum, which was held today in “Mizan” business center.

In the evening, in honor of the high guest, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave an official dinner. In the course of it, the leaders of two countries exchanged speeches. Upon completion of the dinner, familiarization tour of night Ashgabat was organized for the high guest.
