A meeting held under the chairmanship of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the Maslahat kosgi Palace on May 25 focused on the development prospects of the Turkmen capital.
Opening the meeting, the Turkmen leader gave the floor to Editor-in-Chief of the Guinness World Records Mr. Craig Glenday, who had specially arrived in our capital. The guest thanked President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the people of Turkmenistan for the warm hospitality and an opportunity to see once again the changes taking place in the Turkmen capital fascinating the international community and expressed his sincere admiration for the beauty of white-marble Ashgabat and the pace of its development. It was noted that the ambitious urban planning programme had contributed to forming the unique architectural look of the city with new majestic buildings and architectural ensembles. New buildings continue to rise, amazing the guests of Ashgabat with their grandeur and magnificence. The most outstanding attractions in Ashgabat were included in the Guinness World Records. This appears to be another sign of international recognition of the raving success and achievements in developing the Turkmen capital.
Mr. Craig Glenday said the editorial board of the Guinness World Records had decided to register as Ashgabat with the world’s highest number of white marble buildings. Addressing the meeting, the Turkmen leader said new drastic measures had been taken under the development programme of the white-marble capital of our country. The President also noted that the decision to join some settlements in Ruhabat Etrap in Ahal Etrap and Abadan town to Ashgabat was adopted with the view to integrating the plans for the development of Ashgabat and adjacent territories into the urban planning programme, elaborating holistic approaches and implementing new architectural and urban projects. Chairman of the Parliament A. Nurberdyeva read out the Resolution of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan on the Administrative and Territorial Issues of Ashgabat and Ahal Velayat during the meeting.
Recognizing invaluable services of the Turkmen leader in the development of the capital and his profound contribution to domestic urban planning brought to an international level, the Mejlis of Turkmenistan adopted the decision to confer the honorary title of Honoured Architect of Turkmenistan to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. During the meeting the President signed the Decree on the Establishment of Ashgabat City Day, which will be celebrated every year on May 25.
The Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also suggested the architectural and artistic project which could become a new symbol of the capital, a bright stroke of its portrait and a visual attraction in the panorama of the city would be developed. In this context the Turkmen leader suggested that the tender for the design of such a majestic construction should be announced, creating the conditions for public discussion of the proposed projects.
Summing up the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed those present with a speech, emphasising that: “Our duty is to maintain the city’s reputation as most beautiful and clean, cosy and comfortable for the people, beautify it and make it a heritage of our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren”. “We are establishing a new holiday, Ashgabat City Day in honour of our beloved capital city. It is a great holiday for all of its residents. And it is deeply symbolic that Ashgabat City Day coincides with School Leaving Day that marks the end of school years for a new generation of creators of the epoch of might and happiness who are entering into an independent life and striving for new discoveries and accomplishments.” President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed belief that future architectural projects would bring new beautiful features to the look of the capital city that always remained young.
